The only thing that surprises me about our offense

We're wound up over 4+ years of futility on offense under Croom. The first scrimmage is just the latest example.

Bottom line, you know enough football to be dangerous. But you don't know enough to explain anything about it to me.
That probably fits every poster on here when it comes to running a Div I football program, including you. It's kind of fun to sit around and second guess people making millions to make decisions about how it should be run. That's the whole point of this place. But just because you know a few more football terms than others, coached a little bit of high school ball, and sit around over beers talking football with your buds don't give yourself too much credit. However, I'm not gonna ***** too much because I look forward to the pics and put me in the category of too lazy to go to google and search "bikini fishing pictures".

isn't that much of a stretch, talent-wise. They aren't a whole lot better, if any, than us. And you see their scrimmage results, and there are big plays, and Wilson throwing for 300 yards, and you wonder what the problem is. If Carroll can't put up better numbers aGAINST our twos, it certainly isn't a stretch to think he won't be able to do it during the season.

That's what everybody overlooks in these scrimmages, they think it's some zero sum game where it's first team on first team. It usually isn't, it's ones on twos.

But it is also clearly evident that Croom has moved at a snail's pace in development of every aspect of his team, so I don't think we will see any extreme increase in offense this season either. I do believe though that we have seen improvement in our offensive line play and running backs. If we can get some of that improvement in our passing game this season to balance our offense I think we will enjoy another winning season. If not, then Croom and his staff will justifiably be on the hot seat. I do think you will see Croom continue to play to his strengths on offense which is running the ball and hopefully our passing game will improve gradually this season because the defenses have to play honest due to the run threat. I don't hold a lot of hope for 300 yards passing games purely due to the lack of weapons at WR in my opinion. Then again, my opinion after the LSU game last year was that Croom was in the midst of his swan song and he and the team proved me wrong. Croom had a breakthrough season last year due to hard play and some luck. It will be interesting to see how that translates into play this season but I don't see how a scrimmage that Dixon only touches the ball twice can influence a solid decision as to whether we will be worth a crap or not moving the ball.

.....the season hasn't started, then don't count me as one of the surprised people. I haven't expected anything betetr than another crappy offense, mainly because nothing has changed in terms of coaching personnel or scheme. And, as I've been saying since last season, I believe that we cannot and will not continue to be successful on the field unless we do get a lot better on offense. The defense may stay good, and we better hope they do, but I don't recall many defense ever carrying their team from year to year with turnovers and points off turnovers. At some point the offense has to do their part.If ours doesn't step up to the plate soon, then 2007 may potentially be the only bright spot in MSU football this decade.

composed of games won by defensive and special teams TDs will stiffen his resolve to continue running this highly ineffective college offense.

about crooms offensive (pun!) history is how it ruined Omar Conner. To see that guy play in high school I would've bet money on him being the best ever at State. But no....Jackie ruins a year of his eligibility and then Croom makes him read a 1000 page playbook. Conner+Norwood in the backfield running an option-like offense would've been pretty tough to defend, but instead Croom serves Conner up on a silver platter for opposing team's D-lines to practice their form tackles. I may have overestimated Conner's talent, but I know the guy had zero chance for success in that system(which is still in place). I think Croom is doing a good job......and I think he is a very good coach of OL and RB's, but he isn't an offensive mind by any stretch of the imagination. Most of the time last year we would've done better to punt on first down (no, i'm not really kidding)

I can say, Brutius, that's as weak as any argument as I've senn on a sports board. You know you've lost the debate when you resort to name-calling or pull the race card.

thing you can do with the spread. Coaches need "hybrid" safety(s) (sp?) that move more like lbs. And if your secondary can't tackle you've blown a quick slant pattern for 6.

The problem with WCO is that it is predictable and can be efficiently stopped, the spread can't.

And about Dixon "running over people," it won't happen when the box is stacked- the spread and the infinite variations can't be stopped if you have a capable offense with good wc's, and it only gets worse if you can get yards on the ground (see Florida).

Todd, you have to admit that the WCO is oudated and pales compared to the spread. Brass Tax.

We all know why you both hate Sylvester Croom and it really has nothing to do with the offense or defense his teams run.

Leave it to Brutius to play the race card. Moron.

you said this right off the bat...

I say again, the WCO has never worked consistently in college football.
And then expected to be taken seriously in this thread.

It all went downhill pretty fast for you, didn't it?

JWS did not fire Watson Brown. Not that it really matters in this discussion, but as someone keeps trying to point out, facts are facts.

Entirely reasonable and I agree.
