Really ironic Paul's first basket was a left side layup with his right hand. I don't think I've ever seen Paul go up with his left hand on the left side of the hoop. It annoys me beyond belief everytime (Im a lefty). He was blocked last game doing it.
If you still think that you should be going up with your left hand on left side every time you must not watch much hoops.
Ron made a killing of going up with the wrong hand. It’s an antiquated way of looking at things if you still believe that
Paul literally said he should have gone up lefty - despite it working.

Obviously not every time. Just like going right hand on the right side isn't always the best choice.
