The post that mentioned Kevin Donovan got me thinking...

He will always be one my favorite baseball guys because of the 2000 Srarkville Regional. The exact details are a bit hazy, but I remember him starting one game of the regional, pitching well and throwing a ton of pitches. Then I remember us playing in the tight final game against ND and running short on pitchers. He came running out of the bullpen and everybody went crazy and he slammed the door on ND. At least that's what happened in my memory. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

But that got me thinking... What are the "gutsiest" performances by guts in all of our sports history?

Didn't turn out in our favor, but the fact that Chris Relf finished out the Auburn 2011 football game after getting beat to hell and back impressed me.

It's hard to beat Norwood in the 2005 Egg Bowl. It was Wills Reed like with him coming back on the field.

That Donovan performance was unreal.

Notre Dame beat us 7-0 to force a second game, and we were both out of pitchers. It was late and ND had runners on 2nd and 3rd with no one out. Donovan came out of the bullpen and struck out the side to preserve a one run lead. We may have added an insurance run in the 8th, but it looked like we were going to lose that game.

Mario Austin in the Kentucky game at the Hump - the one that started with a 20-0 Kentucky run, and Austin hit a 3 to send it to OT, where we won.

Kevin did something similar in high school. He pitched all ( i want to say 9) innings of a tie game against horn lake that was called due to darkness (horn lake had no lights at their field) on a Friday. He finished the game the next morning, and closed out the 2nd game that was already scheduled for Saturday afternoon. Dude was unreal in high school.

Watching highlights of that still sends chills down my spine.

I thought he preserved the tie and

someone in the 8th hit a homerun or sac fly to give us the win. That someone may have been Travis Chapman but I'm not sure.

Donovan came in to face a lefthanded batter. The first pitch he threw was a curve. The batter bailed out of the batter's box and it was a called strike.

coaches used to burn up high schooler's arms with stuff like that. Pitching 3 straight days. Unreal.

Caleb Reed was very gutsy in Game 2 of the Super in Gainesville.

We did absolutely nothing offensively for the first 6 or 7 innings. But our closer gave us 6 great innings to keep us in it before we started a little rally and the Vickerson did his magic.
