I did a poll at the end of the regular season on if people felt like Pope did a good job last year. 98% said no. I feel like this board is filled with schizophrenics acting like there are these two make believe sides that are split 50/50 and half absolutely adore pope and half don’t. That’s not true. It’s entirely made up by psychos. The vast majority of people save literally less than 5 posters feel this year is make or break.

What exactly are you expecting? We’re probably like preseason 6th or 7th in the SEC. There’s at least 8 or 9 teams that are just as good or better than us in the SEC. Despite the “good job” Pope did his first year, he did exactly as well as preseason rankings had us. And then did much worse the second season. I really don’t expect him to diverge much from the expectation of preseason polls. Is our only hope that he somehow makes the Sweet 16? Is that all we have to look forward to now?

I think many of us are afraid that this won’t be Pope’s last year if he fails to meet fan’s expectations. We don’t know what the new AD will do. We don’t really know how boosters feel. Some posters on here are acting like 4th season is a given because of buyout nonsense. I think a lot of us are kind of scared that this won’t be the last of Mark Pope. A lot of us are illogically scared of the direction UK basketball is going right now.

My irrational fear is that making the tournament is good enough. Surely it’s not. Seeing Pope cosy up to the Crafts a few weeks at some fundraiser kinda scares me. I don’t know how good of a relationship they have.

There’s always fans who put coaches on a pedestal and worship them like the people who worship pastors. It was the same on here when Gillispie was here. We had fans make excuses and then ultimately get pissed that he was let go. Small group though.

Pope was a terrible hire. Most were not sold. He doesn’t have the charisma to make it here or recruit the way that’s needed. He will likely be done after this season. At worse, after the 28 season. People will be thrilled when it’s over.

100%. Doesnt matter how often you say it, some won’t accept it. They think there is a war full of soldiers on both sides. In reality, nearly everyone agrees that Pope will have to be better than he has been thus far to remain employed. It’s exhausting explaining something so clear over and over. Almost everyone agrees — good faith UK fans just want to be on top again as soon as possible.
