The replay shows that the ump wasn't even watching the play...

So whatever he says he saw, he lied about.<div>
</div><div>I'm pretty sure that if the fielder impedes the runner, regardless of intention or not, the runner is granted an extra base.</div>

In that situation, the umpire is supposed to make a determination on if the runner would have advanced safely if the obstruction had not occurred. Example, if a runner bumps into the first baseman on a routine single, the runner does not automatically get awarded 2nd base. He would been out regardless.

That said, if the umpire was looking in the outfield, then he was not doing his job of watching the runner touch 3rd and likely missed the obstruction all together.

I don't have any way of watching the game here in Japan so I don't know for sure what happened. </p>

the runner had a legit change at making the next base. <div>
</div><div>In this case, we had a runner on second and a single to LF. 3B for Ole Miss hesitated and impeded our runner. Our runner probably would've been thrown out at home, had he gone... but it would've been close and would've required a throw that was on line. </div><div>
</div><div>Needless to say, no matter what the ump told Cohen in that situation, he was lying. He was looking at the LF'er when the 3B bumped our runner.</div>
