Does anyone know where I could find the story about Robert Elliot's recruitment that included gene fielding phone calls and the fight in his front yard.

Yeah, I've seen that. There was a thread on here that went into more detail and was hilarious. Not sure if it was true but damn it was funny

Mississippi recruiting at its best. Croomp, Gene, and the big O. Would have made for a great t.v. movie on Lifetime.

The thing I like most about this story is that is was all over a recruit that amounted to absolutely nothing on the field. We both wanted this guy so much we went to ridiculous odds to get him and he was never worth it. That knee injury might have been the dagger, but even before that he never seemed all that good when he ran for you all.

Don't take this as me being glad he wasn't productive or that he got hurt. Just hindsight that he didn't really amount to much after all the recruiting shenanigans.

Bingo

Way too many examples of internet meltdown that were for no reason. Elliot, Patterson, Brassell, Evans, and the list goes on. If I remember right, the stories were that Freeze got in a cursing fight with someone in the driveway.

While Gene snuck him out the back door and hid him until signing day.

Had to do with both schools scheduling In-homes the same night. MSU's coaches were still there when Ole Miss' coaches showed up, but I think they showed up an hour early. Pretty sure there wasn't a fist fight but O and either Grimes or Melvin got into a verbal altercation in the yard. Elliot's uncle told the Ole Miss coaches to leave. Some of that may be off because it's been a long time since I thought about it. Either way it's my 2nd favorite recruiting story. Floyd Raven claiming his mom signed his LOI is still my favorite. Recruiting is fun.

I'll disagree. I thought he was as good as

If you remember, as a true freshman, he was getting significant snaps at CORNER. The backfield was crowded and that's where the need was. He was pretty damn athletic and very quick. The knee injury completely destroyed him.

Nope. When he played against quality d's, he was average at best.

He had some great games against terrible h.s. defenses but was greatly overrated.

His best game was 80 yards against Jackson St., hardly a great game. He only had 1 other game over 50 yards in his career. Just another in a long list of examples of why I don't get worked up over recruiting.

Could have sworn that the altercation was with Freeze and from what was said at the time...I am sure Freeze asked the MSU coaches for forgiveness after his verbal tirade.

Robert Elliott got the only TD of the day at Georgia Tech in 2008. Without that score, MSU gets shut out. I will always be thankful for Robert Elliott scoring that day.

He was vastly overrated in high school. I saw him play once when they played Baldwyn. Baldwyn was a 2A playoff team but nothing special that year. He was shut down the entire game. He was athletic, but not the playmaker he was made out to be.

The story I read was like that. I thought it has Freeze cursing out I guess the uncle. I can't remember an account of Orgeron getting into it with anyone. It would have been more convenient at that time for it to be him. HC doing that is much more juicy than a recruiting coordinator.

I was there. Right before halftime was when I realized that our head coach had no clue what the clock rules were for college football.

It made for several weeks of message board fun.

Per the Spirit Board posters the OM coaches were snapping pictures as the MSU coaches sped away in the BMW they had brought to give Robert. The football coach from Nettleton posted that "Coach O told me to go tell Robert such and such", of course it was in the dead period. The maddest OM fan I saw was the one who actually bought Ro his green explorer to ensure he signed with the Rebs instead of the Tide.
