The following just makes you shake your head.

Got a $30 coupon from the Rutgers team shop because they were ending the rewards program and I had $25 of rewards. So I ordered 2 shirts.

Both items got cancelled. So I asked if I could get the $30 coupon back.

The response was head scratching.

So they let you order stuff that’s out of stock then don’t let you use the coupon again when entire order is cancelled.

Total and utter incompetence. And I love the enthusiastic response as he tells you to go screw.

I’ve had multiple ordered get “cancelled” through this shop because they were out of stock. Pretty stupid they haven’t figured out how to address this issue.

Very similar experience. Tried to give them business but easier to go to other sites get better service products and quality.

Don’t understand how we are an adidas school and offer so little adidas product for sale. There should be an adidas tent in parking lot and kiosk at every athletic event.

Go to any of our competitors campus and you will see large portions of their stadium stores/bookstore with designated space branded with adidas/Nike/under armour.

If you buy buy NIL gear with a coupon, I think they should add a patch next to the name that says "bought on sale".

If that is a canned response, they should can it. If that is a self-generated response, that rep should never be allowed to work in customer service.

"I would LIKE to inform you" that you are getting screwed.

Then they yell at you about hoping you understand with two exclamation points!!

You're screwed, you should understand, but have a great day!!!!!

Does Rutgers even run this, or is it a private label storefront on a custom apparel company that handles dozens of schools? Single use coupons can be a PITA in ecommerce systems, at least the ones I've worked with. It's not rocket science but you would still have to sell a lot of shirts to pay for the code to automatically restore a coupon after a return, and sales reps might not have access to extra codes set aside for this purpose. Inventory management system integrates between the real one and the ecommerce one can also be a PITA at smaller scales which I assume this is. it's not a good excuse, but I see how it happens.

If you have something you are ready to order I would call back and ask again. It may be easier for them to apply a discount on a phone order manually.

Code restoration on "returns" by consumer, I am sure are a pain in the ***. But this is not the case. The order was cancelled by the vendor. It should be automatic restoration, much like crediting other payment sources, credit card, gift card etc... This is an easy fix and should not be met with excuses and the word no.

you might assume so , but not in every platform. return/cancel - same situation. The order was accepted and processed, and later cancelled in a separate transaction when found to be out of stock. The one time use coupon died when the order was processed. A nice CS rep might be able to do a manual overide on a sale but not be able to restore a coupon from a special promotion.

I manage marketing programs where this indeed the case. A one time use coupon in our system can't be used again no matter how the order it was applied to ended up disposition wise. But I don't work for a retailer where this would be a very common occurrence, so you'd think they'd have a solve for that. Also, service reps should at a minimum have a bank of codes that can be provided for customers in this situation.

I had the same experience with the coupon. And I have had issues in the past, but just let them go. But this time, I got pissed off and called the number and insisted they restore the coupon immediately just as a matter of principle. So they sent me a new code, but it was for 20% off rather than $20, and all I really want to buy was a $22 hat. I think I’m going to ignore the next offer I get from them. Too much of a hassle every time I order.

But the last email I got from them had one of the best Freudian slips:

“We are really sorry for all the hustle. Please accept our apology for this trouble.”

It’s a third party company who just has awful systems, processes and customer service. If RU was looking to expand the RU screw they chose the perfect company, otherwise they should punt them farther than Adam Korsak.

But the solution is not to put the onus on the consumer to rectify the issue that was created by the vendor. The vendor should if not have an automated solution empower their employee to reinstate the original offer.

Old adage someone that has a good experience tells 2 people. A person that has a bad experience tells 202.

Plus it sounds like there are many bad experiences. The out of stock cancellations are ridiculous in todays age. When I had an e-commerce business, I as the only employee was able to implement it.

Follet is a giant corporation so they should be able to address these basic issues.

Just had a similar situation. Admittedly I do take major responsibility but not all of it.

I signed up for an obstacle course race in 2022. Come race time I wasn't fully trained so I deferred to 2023. Paid my $35 transfer fee and signed up. They gave me credit for what I originally paid and I had to cover the rest if there was a difference.

Come 2023 race, training got away from me so I want to defer again. However, now I'm getting no credit for my original cost. They are showing I paid "$0" for the 2023 registration (I guess since it was a deferal code) so I get $0 towards the 2024 registration.

Moral of the story - train for races.

The NIL store ain't no prize either. Bought a shirt for a player and got a text confirming the order. Never heard from them again until the shirt showed up on my doorstep a month later. I was hoping for a bit more communication or a receipt of something.

If you did what the OP did, you could have ordered a T-shirt that said "I signed up for an obstacle course race and all I didn't get was a race or a lousy t-shirt- I got fleeced."
