Make of it what you will. But here are the states first RPI ratings. These will be part of the formula in determining the playoff field, especially the wildcard teams.

The RPI ratings have been out since week 1. If you go to NCHSAA website and type RPI in the search bar, you can find them everyday. Volleyball and Soccer are populated and updated daily.

Wow, Laney at #11. Their non conference schedule has been awful. I’m sure they thought DHC would be a strong opponent but they are terrible this year. Then they play Ashley in their first conference game. This is exactly why polls from people who have watched real games with their own eyes and then factor in sos work much better.
There is no panic for most people it just doesnt have much credit when you take a team like Laney who has struggled for many years and play 4 of the worse teams in the state and then they are rated 11. Laney isn’t a top 30 4A team In the East.
It will eventually work itself out. Formula is based off of the team winning, how well the teams they play win and how well the teams that you play play against their schedule. Seeing more data in the volleyball RPI and soccer RPI, it seems to balance itself out as the season moves on
Laney beat a 1-3 DHC team, an 0-3 Lumberton team that hasn’t scored yet this season and 1-3 E. Bladen who is a 2A school and have given up 162 points. They also beat Ashley who is 1-2 and have been one of the 15 worse programs in 4A over the past 10 years. Not sure how any of the above data calculate to a top 11 rpi.
Who does DHC play and their records, who does Lumberton play and their records, who does East Bladen play and their records, and you know who Ashley plays and their records. The big thing I've seen is #1 the more you win, the better off you're going to be, and do the teams you play play tough competition also. It's better that the NCHSAA is completely transparent on their formula vs MaxPreps and obviously this is never going to be perfect, but it is better than where we were I believe.
Geez....I think I'll come up with my own calculations for ratings. Statistically would probably be as good as some I've seen here
