an earful all night (and deservedly so). I know I've beaten this horse dead, but if they wouldn't give up so many 17ing runs in the first two innings, they would be almost unbeatable. Their bullpen is awesome, but they just don't have the hitting to be playing catch-up all night.

ETA: I would give up Heyward and Minor for Pence in a heartbeat.

In the last 3 games, I think he has hit into 4 or 5 double plays. Plus, his hitting mechanics make me cringe. <div>

I'm not sure there is another organization in baseball that have players fail to live up to their hype more often than Atlanta.

Maybe, it's just because they're the closest MLB team.

Except Frenchy is having a pretty good year this year. Maybe in 6 more years Heyward will start to reach his "potential".

but Frenchy never could be consistently good and Heyward is about in that same category. I just don't get excited to see Heyward come to the plate anymore. Hell, Lugo has been outhitting him tonight.

Holy crap, he's league-average at age 21. I think he's going to be ok. Trading away one of the brightest young players in baseball when under team control for years for a decent player in the middle of his prime with a tad bit of regression would be absurd.<div>
</div><div>Francoeur never played as well as Heyward did last year as a 20-year-old, one of the greatest 20-year-old seasons in baseball history, and never had the potential Heyward has. He also didn't know what the strike zone was. Comparing the two is asinine and only shows that people really don't have much of a clue what they're talking about.</div>

Heyward also had a higher strikeout ratio than the guy that didn't know what the strike zone was.

I'm too lazy to paste the stats, but go see for yourself.

Somehow I doubt that .220 is the league average BA.

baseball needs instant replay on calls at home that determine the outcome of a game. 20 innings to lose cause of a blown call is absurd. He tagged the runner.

and I'm a Braves fan. I'm not too happy that I watched a 7 hour game for that kind of BS to end it.

I was pissed when I woke up this morning because I fell asleep at the end of the 17th.. but after seeing that replay I think I would have been just as pissed to have stayed up for the next 30 minutes only to see it end like that. Terrible call. That umpire was definately looking for a way to go home.

Anyone with any decent amount or respect for the game, even Braves fans, hated to see that kind of game end like that. As much as I complain about officials being biased the other way, the team I was cheering for got a completely bogus call. I can't believe it.

or not. The ball beat him by long shot but it wasn't a very clear tag. The umpire thought there was daylight between the swipe tag and the runner and it was pretty close. It's really the 6th tool that teams are starting to evaluate on as much as the others. And his is one of the worst. He set a record for ABs until his first walk after all, and that one was intentional.

That's also why the Heyward comparisons are ridiculous. Heyward has a pretty good eye, and maybe it'll develop into a great one. He's just trying to pull too much, and not going to the opposite field like he was last year. He'll adjust sooner or later.

I guess after watching the game, watching the fans reactions at the game, and even watching Lugo's reaction after he was called safe, no one in a Braves uniform would have complained at all if he was called out. He was certainly in a position to make the tag and swept the ball at Lugo's leg (it still looked like a pretty clear tag... but either way, Meals was the closest to the play), but I don't think anyone would have complained if he was called out.
