Wife sent me this from FB, always appreciate when folks find & post them. Fun to try and mentally reconcile what was with what I experienced or exists today.
Reported as 1964. All of our "sports complex" in one shot and first time I've ever seen a picture of the baseball field. Old Union I knew looks under construction and no Hand Lab, Suttle or "infirmary" I thought would have been there.

This really is a cool photo.

Looks like there's still cleanup happening where Old Main used to be. And clearly our turf management program wasn't as outstanding then as it is now.

Sort of a thread hijack.... If you have not seen the new Duff Center (where McCarthy gym once sat) and the new Azeala Hall (where Suttle once sat), it is amazing how they have transformed and anchor their respective places on campus.

Suttle would be about where the red top building is about half way between the boomerangs and and football field.
Don't forget Hamlin. It was just to the right of where the boomerangs are in this picture. I think it was built a couple years earlier than Suttle. Suttle was very nice (relative to the boomerangs) when it first opened. Hamlin was similar on a smaller scale. McKee is in the general area of Hamlin, directly across the street from the laundry and ROTC building.

Chapel of Memories was completed in 1965 and does not appear to be in this picture, so the reported date of 1964 could be correct.

What was the dorm that was similar to Suttle, but located West of the boomerangs? I lived in Hightower my freshman year (1992) and Duggar my sophomore year. My son lived in Critz his freshman year (2024).

I think you're talking about Hamlin. Rocketdawg referred to it above.

Hamlin. I think it was east instead of west, however. Smaller but similar on the inside. I lived there one summer (co-op student) when the A/C was broken. No ventilation at all.

The Chapel of Memories was built using some of the bricks from Old Main after the fire.

Still might be but here is a picture with Suttle in it for rough reference. (and the improvement our turf crew has made over the years). Like I said, fun to try and reconcile what I remember and what actually was, often not even close.

Suttle was at the low point on the road between the boomerangs and the stadium. Not sure if that road is even still there. If you went straight out the front door of Suttle, climbed the hill (I think there's a parking garage there now) you'd wind up at the post office. The Union was just across Lee Blvd from the post office. You would be traveling essentially east, I think.

Yes, it was East. I mis-spoke there. Old age and all...

Kinda looking forward to seeing Duff. It wasn't quite finished the last time I was down there. Lots of fun times in the McCarthy/Tim Gym area.

64 sounds right. Union was finished in 64 and that looks fresh or still under construction . Hand Lab was finished in 62. That confused me for a bit but you can just barely see it in the top right just to the right of that fresh road/parking area.

Lived in Garner (one of the circle dorms) for 3 years. Was one of t first residents of Evan's.....which no longer exists. Damn, I am old!!!
I also was one of the first residents of Evans. It was state of the art at that time. I think it was demolished in 2015. I'm trying to place where it was under construction in that photo. It had to be under construction at the time.

Evans is not in this picture, and would be just left / north of what is Garner Hall, Etc. - those for four buildings with a circular parking lot in the middle.

Interesting. I guess Dorman was built about where the corner of left-field is in this pic?

Incidentally, lived in Suttle for 3 years (81-83). There was at least one jumper every year I was there. Only personally saw one of them after the plunge. Not a pretty sight to say the least.

Must be a fake. Dorman has existed since 1066; I read about it in history class in high school.

Lived in the Smith Hall boomerang 72-73 and Evan’s 73-74. I was a little kid but remember seeing Old Main the next morning after it burned. It was still smoldering.
