There must be at least 10 threads on Thiero where we the fans recognized something that Cal is just now onto.

It has been crystal clear from the first time we saw this kid in live game action that he brings physicality, aggression, fundamentally sound basketball, a high motor, and attributes that are conducive to winning.

Furthermore, he is a guy who can be developed so that next year when all of these freshmen show up, he can be a steadying force and a leader.

The plain truth is that Reeves is inconsistent, and will always be a volume guy who shoots us into or out of games. Frederick has been beyond terrible. Wheeler does not need to play more than 25 minutes per game. And all these dudes won’t be around next year. Thiero can contribute at those positions. And he can potentially play at the 4.

It’s just infuriating to watch Cal do his thing.

Right now, it’s Wallace and a bunch of mid-major talent at guard. Wheeler and Reeves are not UK material, IMHO. And I don’t know what has happened to Fredrick. I understand he is rusty, but he has gotten worse over the course of the season. Rusty players usually improve as the season progresses. So why not play Thiero? Why not give him a shot. It’s not like anyone in front of him is setting the world on fire.

Do we want Thiero to play to prove that he can, or to prove that he can’t ?? I agree he deserves a chance, but this board was absolutely full of people clamoring for Toppin to play over Brooks last year. Now, look at the situation …

Toppin was in a completely different role last year where he thrived more so than this year. Cal, seeing toppin is struggling with this new role does what? That’s right just keeps him in it as opposed to going back to where he was successful last year. Some players are ready to take that step, some are not. This is 100% the responsibility of the coach to recognize that very thing.

When Cal says “next in line to play”, what I hear is Adou will get “played” by having minutes mentioned in public without ever being given a real opportunity.

Man, I have become so cynical.
I have to, because I could honestly see him putting Thiero in a game, theiro making one mistake and cal never playing him again like Hopkins

A 10 million dollar coach, shouldn’t have as many “hindsight statements” as cal does

Just play him and see what happens, we have a bunch of guys who can/can't play depending on what day it is. He can't be worse than all of them.

That is absolutely it. Can we at least try a few more lineup combos before it's too late? Let's give Thiero an extended run to see what he can do.

You misunderstand what is happening here. Cal didn't just realize this, but he or his people absolutely have seen the messages and this is the response. He says **** like this specifically to get a rise out of the fans, then he will either continue not playing him or play him once, yank him the moment he makes a mistake, then go on the post game to deride the fans for thinking they know better than him.

That's his shtick.

No team will win a championship without an elite point guard that can draw the defense. That means you have to shoot the ball well enough to get respect. Our point guard does not pass the taste test. Left hand dominate and shoots a lot and makes a few. We have talent on the bench but Cal says I can't hide you. He has hid Livingston and Thiero when most know they both are better players than the ones playing in front of them. Its all about giving his returnees the best opportunity to get to the league. He is not about winning its about his legacy. This team is better with our freshmen and Oscar on the floor, let them play through mistakes and come March they will make us proud. Cal's chit talk has all been proven to be just that, his hall of fame credentials should include used car salesman. But that would look bad on real used car salesmen.
