Help me with this. Why does the 2009-2010 Ole Miss basketball team suck? There are competing theories on NAFOOM, but inevitably somebody ruins the thread with a Rod Barnes reference.

State and Ole Miss have had similar problems over the course of the season, but I think Stans has figured something out that Kennedy has yet to.

Can't win the Super Regionals.
Can't win the West in football.
Can't make it to the NCAA tourney in bball.

Even when all three are expected (or very possible if not expected) to happen that year.

But I think it's a conglomerate of things. I don't think Kennedy is necessarily a bad coach, but sometimes he does some things that make me scratch my head (much like Stans). Secondly, you guys have ZERO inside presence offensively and defensively. State, on the other hand, is average offensively and very good defensively on the interior. Cranston is pretty bad, and he is your best option down low. Finally, every time I watch Ole Miss I can't help but think I'm watching street ball. Say what you will about State's offensive sets, but what little we do at least has purpose. Sometimes, I watch OM and it seems like nobody knows exactly what their job is on one particular play... So it eventually leads to Warren or White jacking up some ill advised shot. <div>

the OM basketball teamshows no emotion whatsoever. They don't even look like they care when I see them play.

White and Warren still look like they don't know how to play on the floor at the same time. Polyniece is a black hole. If he gets the ball it's going up whether it's a jumper or a layup in between 3 or 4 defenders. Your best post player is sitting out an 0-11 season down at LSU. Buckner has been hurt, but he's still only a freshmens. Cranston is a foul machine. Coming into tonight he had something like 105 points and 75 fouls on the season. Brutal.

but I think it's a simple answer that UM isn't there talent wise. Chris Warren and Polynese(sp) are both good at some things, but limited. I don't understand White; I thought he was going to be leaps and bounds beyond where he is now, so that might be something Kennedy should answer for. Your bigs more or less suck. I think generally, Kennedy's teams have played up to their ability fairly well. He hasn't quite been able to get over the hump, but I don't think people would expect him to be over the hump yet had he not done so much with such a craptastic team his first year. Ireally thoughtanybody that could take that team to 8-8 would be dangerous. I thinkKennedy's proven he's not the world beater he looked like his first year, but I still thinkone really good player (like I though White was going to be) or maybe even just some solid bigs and he'll put together some dangerous teams.</p>

is that your guards don't play together very well. Warren had a good season for you 2 years ago and White had a good season for you last year. But they're both used to being THE guy. And when they play together, they both want to still be THE guy. And that's not really a good thing for you.

he was a low post threat growing into his own and he pulls a Delk and transfers. He will be a star at LSU for two years. Huertas opting to play in the Burrito League in Puerto Rico also hurt. With that said, after seeing Warren play in person twice this year, he is not the same player as he was before his injury. He just doesn't have the same jets as he had previously. I still think either the Rebs or Bulldogs make the dance, though. It just depends on which one craps the bed less down the stretch.

For me, that's on Kennedy too. You either find a way for them to co-exist or sub them accordingly. They both disappear for long stretches. At one point, I thought Warren and Bost were equals. Now, it's not even close. I don't think White has regressed. I just think his touches are so limited by Warren and Polyniece that he never gets in a rhythm and as a result remains tentative. The coup de grace will be LSU beating us for their first SEC win.

You guys simply dont have as much talent as you think you do. And that falls on Kennedy too. White would be the only player you have that could start for us.

1. too little Terrico. Way too much Gaskins, Graham, Warren. Put the ball in Terrico's hands, put Warren and Grahm/Gaskins on the wing, Holloway in the short corner and let Polynice and Terrico ball screen to try and get dribble penetration b/c both are so good at it and look to kick to the shooters. When white gets in the lane, he's unstoppable. He can lift over anyone guarding him and knocks down that shot almost everytime.

2. Too much athleticism at the guards and down low (Om's bigs aren't good in a half court set, but are too athletic not to press more with them) to not force the issue more on defense. More pressure, more full court pressure--like against State the last 10 minutes

those are the things I would do differently.

...and the first is starting with your point guard. 1) Last year, Terrico White was looking like an NBA star at Point Guard, he was moved to the 2 guard, where he has languished because Warren is a 2 guard who shoots first, and doesn't run the team. 2) You have little experience at the bigs, and most of them want to shoot the 3 like they were Kodi or something. 3. You have several rhythm shooters, and they don't get enough shots to get into rhythm.

No real offenive sets, no inside game on either end of the floor. White needs to play the point more often, Warren does not have that extra quickness that he had before his knee.</p>

If Ole Miss was serious about basketball, you would abandon that current crap hole you play in & build you a real basketball facility.


If Ole Miss was serious about basketball, Kennedy would have been fired for acting an *** in a taxi last year.


If Ole Miss was serious about basketball, your fans would show up for a huge home game vs. Vanderbilt.


When a school doesn't give a **** about a specific sport, it affects the players.


Ole Miss just doesn't give a damn about basketball. And that attitude infects every aspect of your basketball program.

Warren averages 4 more points than Bost, while playing less minutes,AND shooting afairly significantly higher% from the field, from 3, and from the FT line. Their assist to turnover ratios are identical, I'm still not seeing why or howBost is more talented.

White's talenttrumps any player that we have so much that he alone should make up for the lack of talent thatthey have elsewhere, but it's even hardfor me to say I'd rather have Augustus than Holloway, Graham, orHenry, who all shoot a higher % than Augustus while turning the ball overmuch less.

Kodi might "appear" to have talent b/c he can put the ball on the floor and occassionaly bank a 3 in, but he hurts us more than he helps us and doesn't play a role as well as the3/4 position players at OM.

Even if MSU has a talent advantage, it's a lot closer than you think, I'd take their combination of players at the 4 position over Osby and Augustus right now, and it's debatable as to whether Polynice is worse than Ravern overall. Polynice shoots over 43% from the field and defendsmuch better, he just doesn't give them thelong range shooting threat that Ravern gives us
