Continuing to recruit with monetary offers. If the conversation goes something like this:

Coach - "we want you to play for us, here's a scholarship."
Player's Rep - "we want a scholarship and $180k."
Coach - "we're offering a scholarship."
Player's rep - "the Lord knows we deserve a scholarship and $180k. We're out of here."
Coach - "the scholly is still on the table if you change your mind. By the way, the cheapest gas is at the Shell on Highway 12."

What has the coach done wrong?

actually there isn't with regards to the players eligibility. once money is requested that player is no longer eligible.

lucky for us, and contrary to popular internet opinion, we did end his recruitment after this went down.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it's not illegal to recruit a player that is going to be ineligible.

the time lapse that it took us to report the incident making it seem like we likely would not have reported at all had he accepted our scholarship only offer.

but I think we'd still be in the clear as long as his continued recruitment was Mullen trying to convince Cam tomake hisown decisionand sign with State. As long as we kept things clean and didn't put in a bid , I don't see how we could be punished on this one.

"Look, I know you need some money, but Cam is going to be a top NFL quarterback. He can play here for a year and then go pro after a spectacular season. But don't go around asking for money. I don't think you want to do that, right?"

was because from every indicator we had (including Cam's phone call back to us) was that a deal similar to what Cecil was asking from us went down with Auburn. If we had felt that both schools had blown off Cecil's demands and then Cam chose Auburn for just the scholarship I feel pretty certain we would have let it go. Makes no sense to bother with otherwise.

show me the rule in the NCAA rule book that sets the time line on reporting information. I don't believe there is one. We were compelled to report it to the SEC, not the NCAA, and there was not hard time line set on that. Can it make us look like sore losers? Yeah. Can it make it look like we wouldn't have reported had he signed with us? Maybe. Is it a violation? Nope.
