Remind me of many in the Willard era. Just leaves you wondering what the hell was that I just suffered through.
It was the opposite scenario in games like that that we have won. I think Shaheen has a point about his team was just plain tired and Clark ran out of gas after a pretty good 35 minutes. Our bigs got handled throughout.... 13 Offensive rebounds for DePaul. Credit DePaul for a good game plan and good execution. When we lost that 8 point (I think) lead in 2nd half so quickly I knew we were in trouble. Agreed, some calls / non-calls had me scratching my head. That one DePaul put back that was on the rim comes to mind. The foul disparagement again was big.... I guess a result of a tired D...... or tired refs. are they getting enough time between games???? (*dripping with sarcasm*)We go up by 1 with 5:30 left and this happens immediately:
**Macklin gets Payne in the air for an and-1.
**Payne cannot pull down a gimme OR and easy putback Simpkins drive.
**ANOTHER and-1 after refs blow a clear offensive foul on DePaul, this time Dar in the air.
**Budd turnover on a drive that had a lane, but SHU forces one back.
**Budd misses front-end FT.
**Another offensive rebound putback for Benson.
**ASM misses front-end FT.
**Macklin runner.
**Budd turnover OOB.
**Corner 3 for DePaul.
**Budd turnover OOB.
**DePaul 2 FT’s.
In about 4 game minutes we allow a 15-0 run, go from 1 up to down 14 and DePaul scores every time they have the ball except the one turnover we created that we blow.
2 and-1’s
3 Budd Clark turnovers
2 missed front ends
2x Payne gets embarrassed
Horrow show. Possibly the worst stretch of ball all year.
I thought they really had a chance to take control of the game early in second half, up 6, they force a 3 by Nelson late in the shot clock. Of course they then proceed to go over 5 minutes without scoring. We go up by 1 with 5:30 left and this happens immediately:

Yes - Willard really did a good job for us. The lack of NCAA wins was disappointing, but making the tournament is always fun.Another thread where we can't give up on the W word.
We watched the Blaney years
We watched Amaker lose 15 games with the most talented team in school history
We watched Orr get pounded by 50 multiple times
We watched Gonzo top out at the NIT and play Larry Davis at the 5
And yet the obsession with the previous coach continues.

With everything going on from NIL to gambling to stories constantly, this is the world we live in.When you see a team close out like that after closing games so well all season, in this NIL environment, it does give you pause that something else might be going on.
Tiresome is reading about a coach who hasn't coached seton hall in 4 years. I'll help you, what you suffered through during half those years was hearing SETON HALL PIRATES on selection sunday. You can be so tiresome. Don’t like the thread? Stay out of it.
The most impressive part of your disagreement with nobody is watching you invent an argument about Kevin Willard and then blame others for talking about Kevin Willard. Amazing.Tiresome is reading about a coach who hasn't coached seton hall in 4 years. You don't find it odd that the mans name is in every thread on here? Any therapist would say it's an unhealthy obsession going on here. The most impressive part of your disagreement with nobody is watching you invent an argument about Kevin Willard and then blame others for talking about Kevin Willard. Amazing.
To be fair the Willard / DePaul PTSD isn’t made up.It’s a Seton Hall basketball message board and Sha just pulled a Willard. Only difference is Willard would drop a seed line whereas Sha just dropped out of tournament contention. It wasn’t a stretch and it was a fair comparison.
Current coach is 5-4 vs DePaul with 3 of the wins by 5 or less. The facts are the facts. To be fair the Willard / DePaul PTSD isn’t made up.
During this time period DePaul was 42-173 (.196) in BE play.
His record vs DePaul was 15-7. 16% of their total wins came against Seton Hall during this time period. The most against any BE opponent during this stretch. Providence and St. John’s fans probably having similar nightmares, both with 6 loses during that same stretch.
Of the 15 wins vs DePaul under Willard, 5 were decided by 5 points or less.
2014-15: Whitehead’s freshman year we lost twice to them. As we imploded after a 13-3 (3-1) start to the year.
2021-22: This team dug themselves an early season conference hole at 3-6. They lost 4 of 5, which started with a loss against DePaul.
2018-19: The team needed to beat Marquette and Nova to end the season to get back to 9-9 and make the dance, because they lost to DePaul twice.
But the game that still haunts many and causes sleepless nights…
2011-12: Lost at DePaul (86-58) who was 2-15 in BE play prior to that game. It cost the team a tournament bid.
There is no Willard hatred or agenda. The facts are the facts. As I always say in these Willard debates. He had plenty of accomplishments and plenty of moments where more could have been accomplished.
His track record vs DePaul was not something I would consider stellar.
We struggle to extend leads bc our offense is bad. We got up 6 twice on DePaul and immediately gave it back.I thought they really had a chance to take control of the game early in second half, up 6, they force a 3 by Nelson late in the shot clock. The gambling thought enters in because it’s actually happening now. It’s just likely to be more prevalent now given the motivation and conditions are creating the perfect storm. With everything going on from NIL to gambling to stories constantly, this is the world we live in.
Just like the CU loss. 2 of them. Those two missed front ends seemed to really empty the tank. Absolute killer.
It's been happening forever. Who knows if it's more, less, or the same. The difference is that it's easier to catch now because it's all done through the internet. The gambling thought enters in because it’s actually happening now. and why the students have vanished from the games...When you see a team close out like that after closing games so well all season, in this NIL environment, it does give you pause that something else might be going on.
i don't know the reason, but seems thag could be merit there's something more to this teamWhy?
