I think we may be better without Banks, Broomfield and Slay. Their success was when the opposing QB made mistakes, not because they were good on coverage. They have been exposed by the fact that we could not pressure any QB, but the D-linemen will be a year older and hopefully stronger next year.
I do think the Bears will be a very good team next year, probably a tad better than us, as they now add Conner and Nkemdiche to an already solid D.

We need to sign the JUCO DE (Smith), and hope and prey some of the younger guys develop. It doesn't matter who we have back thre, with no pass rush we'll struggle on D again. We've got bodies in the middle, gotta find some DEs.
Broomfield isn't a true ss. Slay and Banks were a little overrated, but the lack of dline pressure killed us against almost every opponent. Remember we have Redmond waiting in the wings and Market has looked good on special teams. The gaping question mark is line play.
Our defensive front will be better next year but our record may not reflect it. We get both Browns in at Lb and the line will be improved. The secondary should be about the same.

If the Bears are "very good" they will be more than a tad better than us. We didn't beat a single team in the SEC with a winning record. In fact, we didn't come within 3 scores. Our best hope next year is that we are back at home and that has always been a huge plus in this rivalry. We won't be the better team though, unless someone steps up. People are dissing Banks now but he's an All American! Moncrief just owned him tonight. And Moncrief's a sophomore. So is Wallace. They played Mullen talking smack on the Jumbotron all night and it worked. The same team that faded in the 4th quarter against everyone else kept churning on us. i don't think the smack talk does any good at all. It didn't tonight. Do your talking on the field.
