in the sense that in the past when we have had decommitments, while I didn't like it there was some sense to it. As an example, heck, who could really blame a Pat Patterson from steering away from a Croom-McCorvey offense that was a train wreck and had no semblance of a passing game. In the situation this year with everything related to our program so positive to all of a sudden just have multiple players to have instantaneous changes of heart at this late date to go to the rival program with some obvious issues just doesn't really pass the general logic test.

According to BDJ, he was asked why the sudden change in heart. His statement was that with all the other schools, they recruited him with the whole staff whereas with MSU he only got to know Hud, Diaz and Mullen.

He said in an interview, after Manny left for UT, that he was "just shocked" , and no longer comfortable with the situation at State. Said he justwanted "that comfort level back".

Is that why he is going to choose a school whose coach will likely be fired at the end of next year? Lets face it Nutt is not going to turn it around next year and he is on his way out.

It's the whole thing with his father being a huge MSU fan before he passed away and how CJ has said it was his dad's biggest dream to see him play at MSU and all the stuff that CJ said his dad told him about honoring his word. That's the part that perplexes me the most. Whitehead I can understand flipping, as he's been pretty open the whole time. But CJ has done nothing but recruit for us and talk about how he would follow his dad's advice and stick with his commitment. Couple that with the whole lanyard snatching incident at the Egg Bowl, and this is probably themost confusingrecruitment of a player I've ever seen.

after he de-committed, my first thought was "Diaz is going to try to swing him to Texas .. that 17'er". Then like 2 days later CJ said he just didn't feel comfortable in his committment. Wasn't sure what he was going to do.

In my opinion, his view is legit.

I think people are forgetting that fact, so they just chalk it up to "ole mi$$ is at it again!!111!!!"

but CJ committed before we hired Diaz, did he not? At the end of the day these kidshave no allegiance to any particular school. They want to go where their homeboys are going and they want to go where they are getting the most hepp. The Right Rev realized his back was against the wall after being ownedin hisrivalry game (shockingUM, Iknow)and gave the ambulance chasers the green light to "get to heppin". </p>

he could be on his way out.

Yet players invariably make the majority of their decision based on the coaching staff, despite the fact that the coaching staff is the thing most likely to change.

I won't be shocked if Nutt is able to buy himself another year by the way regardless of what happens next year. If the offense is good again and the defense is again an issue, he may be able to buy himself a year by canning Nix. If he does that, I think he'll be fine, because I look for us to be in pretty good shape for 2012.

Problem is, the schedule won't be very favorable in 2012 with UF, UGA, and Texas all on the schedule along with the West. Granted, Texas, UGA, and Florida wouldn't have been too big of a challenge this past year compared to most years, but it's still going to be a tough road. We should be in much better shape personnel-wise in 2012, so if he survives 2011, I won't be shocked if he makes the turnaround and gets things back on track to stay a while.

For a passive agressive jab while ostensibly trying to seem objective. 17 you!

I can assure you that a team that lost to Jacksonville State, Vandy and got beat down senselessly byarguably the worst Tenn team in 30 years would have had more than a "challenge" with UGA and Florida this year.

I can comfortably say that CJ going to Ole Miss is probably the most disappointed I have ever been about a recruit. And by disappointed I mean it just pisses me off, I am not going to lose any sleep over it. He was a crucial piece to this class and to what we are trying to do on defense. <div>
</div><div>I don't hate Ole Miss with the same zeal as many on here. I went to Law School in Oxford and had a blast (this was accomplished by completely ignoring the fact that there was an athletic program on campus). However, I can honestly say that I don't see how they are going to get to 6 wins next year. That football team was bad and it isnt getting any better in 2011. Hell, we made Masoli look like Tyson Lee in the Egg Bowl. That means that the current staff is most likely gone. That said, I do understand why some players would choose Ole Miss, with their recent success still fresh in their memory. I just don't understand how we lost a couple that have been State commitments for a LONG time. If one thing is true of H.S. kids, they have trouble putting things in perspective and the 2 Cotton bowls mean a lot more than the current trajectory of the program. Note, Ole Miss trolls, you could very well develop your young talent and turn it back around in 2012 - but I just don't see it happening next year. </div><div>

He hated Ole Miss with a passion. Then while in high school it became more about hanging out with buddies and girlfriends. He and a big group of buddies visited MSU and Ole Miss and they decided as a group to go to Ole Miss. For whatever reason, what does it matter. He is now a big Ole Miss fan. People change their minds, especially 18 year olds. It has nothing to do with intelligence, nothing to do with who his parents taught him to cheer for, nothing to do with anything but where he felt comfortable.

It has to do with where the kid feels the most comfortable and what feels like home to them. Sure there are coaches on both sides spewing ******** and filling the kids heads up with the positives for his team and the negatives of the other. At the end of the day, the kid is going to believe one coach over the other. The kid is going to feel more comfortable, more at home at one school and coach over the other. It has nothing to do with who went to what bowl or what team is perceived to be going in a better direction.

Hell, when I graduated college, there was one company that I had wanted to go to work for my entire entire time I was in college. When I got out I was able to get an interview with them and their competitor. I was offered both jobs but just did not feel like the people I was talking to at my dream employer were the type people I wanted to work with day in and day out. I chose to go with the other company and was glad I did.

I don't understand why a lot of our fans cannot understand that kids change their minds, adults change their minds. There are people on here living and dying by the decision a kid is going to make about where to attend college and that is just absurd.

Everyone take a deep breath and realize that whatever this class looks like when it is all said and done, Mullen will evaluate his recruiting and make changes where it is needed. Has he ever given us a reason to think otherwise? Everyone take a deep breath and realize that whatever this class looks like when it is all said and done, Mullen is going to put a good product on the field next year and the years to follow? Has he give us any reason to think otherwise?

Until Mullen show us that he cannot do a good job, ON THE FIELD, where it actually matters, state fans need to settle down and relax. He is not Croom and Larry Templeton is not running the athletic department, the end is not near and you are acting like a bunch of ++@+$%+ bitches worrying about kids and their decision making process.

Let Mullen and staff do their jobs and we need to do ours by buying tickets and supporting the teams instead of questioning their abilities.

Someone please make this stop.

I agree with everything you said, especially about having faith in Mullen. That said, I am concerned about possible cheating at Ole Miss presenting a less-than-even playing field. As much as I wanted Singleton, it didn't worry or anger me that he decided to go to OM. He looked at our depth chart & got intimidated. He feels he'll get on the field sooner at OM, and he is probably right, especially since he is apparently worried about competition.<div>
</div><div>But CJ turning over along with all the others over the dead period makes me feel more certain than ever that Ole Miss is dirty. And if they are dirty, they can damage our recruiting enough to possibly hold us back or at least delay us getting to the level of an LSU or Alabama. I don't think Ole Miss is ever going to be elite under Nutt. I think we have a chance with Mullen, but we may not go beyond very, very good if Dan is up against a stacked deck in recruiting in-state.</div><div>
</div><div>So, I'm not pissed at kids changing their minds, but I am very concerned about possible big-time cheating at Ole Miss, as that would not bode well for our long-term goals of winning an SECCG and even contending for a NC. There is enough talent in Mississippi to get elite, but not if Ole Miss is consistently gonna rake in a majority of the top recruits, regardless of their on-field performance.</div>

With the Cam Newton BS, I def do not think we are dirty. Were we dirty, I think we sign Cam last year and we do as Auburn did in results. I don't think we would consider buying players with the CN stuff still hanging heavy in the air.

and the guy is suppose to be a heck of a LB coach and one that players really enjoy playing for. Besides that all indications are that he's a heck of a recruiter as well. Its obvious there are other "factors" here because for a school CJ was committed to for about 14 months he's not even giving us a chance to get him comfortable again with the new guy. And I personally will be shocked if OM don't end up having to make some significant changes to their defensive staff next year.

but we are evidently confident enough in our recruiting practices being above board that we didn't mind turning in something that we knew would bring some inspection into our recruiting of at least one high profile player. I can't imagine OM ever doing something like that to be looked into by the NCAA. Mullen is NOT desparate as compared to Nutt so I do think he is trying to run a relatively clean program. I just think OM has stepped up the game this year in recruiting because the OM movers and shakers are NOT going to quietly stand by idly and watch us pass them by. They just aren't.

on a recruiting visit up there in football I was convinced it was not the place for me. It goes to what you said, comfort. I wasn't comfortable being around a bunch of arrogant pricks, obviously some folks are. I know I am generalizing and being small minded but as a 17 year old that is what I was feeling and it altered my decision and I am glad it did. I have lots of Ole Miss friends today that I consider very good friends. I don't hate the people, I just hate the attitude of the University and many of their own people don't buy into that crap either but you wouldn't know it from their message boards.
