I hear people say that we were not prepared for the LA Tech game. Not prepared???? Haha...that's the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time. What do you think we have been doing since early August, playing Jenga??? Bottom line is this, players didn't execute. You put players in a position to succeed...that is your job as a coach. Croom gave these players every opportunity to be successful. What happened was that after we threw a couple INT's our team got shook and WC or none of the so called "leaders" on the team stepped up and slapped them back into place. Last yeah Avery Hannible or Titus Brown would have slapped the crap out of WC and let him know that he better step his game up! Coaches yelling at you doesn't quite have the same effect as when a team mate does. Croom had nothing to do with J. Smith turning into Willie Mays on the punt return. Sure the coach gets some of the blame because he is, after all, the coach but this crap is getting ridiculous. We give these young men a free ride at a major university to preform and when they don't you blame them!!!!! Not anyone else!!! If they are man enough to sign a contract with your school and be treated like celebrities in high school then darn-it, they are old enough to get the blame to. If a player isn't working hard enough then it's that kids fault because they are given the opportunity to do so. These coaches can't watch them every second to make sure they arn't cutting corners or slacking. You just have to trust that the kid is working like he is supposed to. This isn't only a game to these players, it's a job because we pay a lot of money to them (through scholly's) to preform a task. They have been trained, they have been educated, now they have to step up like they have been taught to do.

So, it's a coincidence that our players happen to not execute in the first game of the season every year?

copy-pasting something from GP. I think and hope he is calling the original post crazy. If not then he is crazy.

I am the original poster but I mean really. I know most of you hate Croom but it's not all his fault.

Can't blame the coaches? That's 17ing laughable. I'll tell you how prepared we were. We 17ing flew over on 17ing gameday dipshit. That's how prepared we were. The team takes on the personality of their coaches, right? Well apparently our coaches didn't give La. Tech any respect and so they didn't think they had to focus to play La. Tech. Whose fault is that? The 17ing coaches fault, that's who. Our coaches acted like this game was a W before it even started and the players thought they could just walk out on the field and expect La Tech to lay down for them. Well instead they got hit in the 17ing mouth and looked like a bunch of pussies on national television. Coaches fault.

The coaches made the call to put Lee in the game, even though he didn't even know which way to turn to hand the 17ing football off. Yeah, definitely Lee's fault that he was put in the fire, when it was evident that he wasn't ready to lead our football team to a bubble gum chewing contest much less lead us to a comeback win. Damn Carroll for going away with what was working, short passes and running the football. Ole McCorvey had nothing to do with that. Matter of fact, I saw him and Stringer play thumb wars, which would explain why the hell there wasn't any coaching going on.

Yeah, I see your point. Definitely players fault... Carroll better pray he doesn't throw another Int on my watch, because I will cane that M'17er when the game is over. We'll show them want we DawgStupid...

I'll tell you what real coaches do. If they see that their team has the big head, they deflate it. If they see a game that the players might over look, they emphasize it. Kind of like Lsu having to wear shirts to remind them that App. St beat Michigan last year. Our coaches gave our players shirts that said "we respect you so much, that we are going to fly down on game day, beat your *** and fly back, because we are M-State." Our coaches thought it was a cakewalk game and that attitude was passed down to our players. Again, coaches fault. 1.7 million dollars=A lot of accountability.

Willie Mays didn't play football (that I'm aware of). Secondly, Mays was one of, if not the best defensive CF in baseball history (I consider him the best ever at CF), plus he made arguably the greatest defensive play in baseball history, so I'm going to take a wild guess that Mays could probably field a punt. Maybe you're talking about Willie Mays circa Mets at the end of his career? Otherwise that's the dumbest analogy I've ever seen on this board.

Secondly, we weren't prepared. We overlooked them. Do you really believe that we spent ALL spring and ALL fall getting ready for just La Tech? No one does that the entire duration of fall and spring camp.

It's Croom's job to get the players ready and NOT overlook these guys. He didn't get it done. He sure as hell didn't put us in position to win the game with Tyson Lee at the controls and punting with about three minutes left in the game.

Lastly, did you play at Meridian HS? (inside joke)

I meant the over the shoulder grab...you know the Willie Mays catch??? Stay with me Mr. Baseball. Secondly I didn't say that our coaches weren't to blame AT ALL, I said its more the players fault than the coaches. Come with more than that please!

Hey Jackass....how can you have one without the other? How do you get to the point of being able able to "execute"? By "preparation"

I tell you what...no wonder every football fan over here in !%%*$+* alabama makes fun of this board. We are the most negative fans i have ever seen. if we do start winning ballgames this year i don't want to hear one of you band wagon jumpers say one good thing about our team. Some of you beg for us to fail just because you can say "I told you so". thats fine because i love maroon and white football. This smart *** ******** is old. I've been following this board for longer than most of you and i've finally had enough of this crap. So maybe we will lose so we can fire the biggest class act that ever happened to M-State. And maybe we will lose so you can sleep better at night because "you we right", but i will tell you this. i know Croom made a couple bad calls the other night but what coach doesn't. Even the great Spurrier made some bad calls against Vandy and he has won a few games. The end result is that Croom didn't throw 3 INTS. Croom didn't skip class like a moron, and Croom didn't fire a damn gun on campus, and Croom didn't make those 2 dumbass calls the refs made. Grow the %+$% up and admit that our players are the ones that dropped the ball...literally.

Seriously, this is the 5th year for your coach. You can pretty much blame everything on the coaching staff at this point.

If it's a lack of talent, it's the coach's fault, because these are his players.
If it's a lack of discipline, it's the coach's fault, because these are his players, and the players all know what is expected of them by now.
If it's a lack of execution, it's the coach's fault, because again, these are his players again, and the coaches are the ones responsible for getting them ready mentally and physically for every game.

I can understand giving coaches a pass for the first 2-3 years, because they sometimes are still in the process of changing things. By year 5 though, everything should fall on the coaches.

If a guy is skipping class, especially a senior, the coaches haven't done a good enough job instilling discipline in that player. Maybe it has something to do with that player having been arrested multiple times during his tenure without ever receiving a suspension. That might explain the skipping class and the lack of accountability. If a QB is making bad throws consistently, that's the coach's fault for not recruiting a better one, or not preparing the current one better.

Don't get me wrong. I think Croom is a decent guy, and you called him a class act, but that's not why you pay a football coach. You pay a football coach to have your team in shape to be able to win consistently by his 5th year. I know this isn't my team, but your attitude about lack of accountability for a coaching staff ticks me off, because it reminds me of all the fans we have that are just like you when it comes to giving passes to our coaches.
