Once you hit the college ranks baseball becomes much more complicated and in depth as pertained to the strategies that go on thoughout the game. Pitcher-batter, hitter-pitcher, pitcher-defense, defense-hitter. There are so many small details on baseball that get overlooked by the common casual fan.
We have scouting reports on every team and player we play. Human beings are animals of habit and scouting reports are a great tool to use to your advantage, IF you teach your players how to understand them and use them throughout the game as situations change. I've noticed a lot of What the 17 moments when I scratch my head
For instance a RH pitcher starting off every RH hitter with something off speed away. We have RH hitters up there not expecting that pitch and looking like fools swinging at a ball on 1st pitch. Sitting in Hoover, even though we won, it never looked like any of our hitters, except Frazier, ever had a plan at the plate. They could have easily been sitting on certain pitches in certain situations and teeing off, but instead they were swinging as bad pitches and taking perfec ones.
I don't want to get on the base running. It's been horrible and we dont have a GD clue as to when to tag up and when to get off the base half way on balls hit to the outfield.
It's either one of two things, 1) our coaches are not doing their jobs or 2) our players are not capable mentally to understand the complexity of the game of baseball.
