This is Mullen's No Excuse Must Win

This is the biggest game in his head coaching career and its a MUST WIN in my opinion. I'm know it sounds over the top, but its true. It's his 4th year, we all know about never beating a West team outside of Ole Miss. I think I've heard that 50 times just this week.

Mullen has no excuse on this one. None. We know exactly what Auburn has. We have them at home. This game has been circled since last year. We win this, and we have a legitimate shot at being 7-0 heading into Tuscaloosa.

Last years game was one of the most pitifully coached football games I have ever seen. We had no business losing that game. Auburn was a terrible football team and we couldn't take care of business. They got beat by BAMA, LSU, Arky, and UGA by a combined 127 to 40 something. Us losing to them was disgusting.

I feel good about Saturday. I think our DL should be in Auburns backfield all day. I think Russell will have success throwing. And I think we should be able to move the ball on the ground. We matchup much more favorably to Auburns current Pro-Style versus Malzhans spread-em out pull a rabbit out of his *** crap. Auburns special teams worry me. They have the best kicker in the country. But as long as we dont have any SP teams breakdowns, I think we win.

If Mullen can't win this game, how good is he really? And why would we want him? I mean seriously. I don't expect us to beat LSU and Alabama every year, but by God we should be able to beat a ****** Auburn team, beat A&M, beat Arkansas, beat Ole Miss. Especially at home.

State 28 - Auburn 16 ------Must win, no excuse

easy there, turbo... I'd say that OOC (4), UK, & Ole Miss are the only "must wins"... then try to get 2 of 3 vs AU, UT & A&M... That's a 9 win season (including a bowl).

that being said, I will agree you cats....errr, Dawgs, are due... Would another close loss send MSU into a downward spiral?

We are building everything a program would want in football..New digs, stadium expansion, pay....It is now time for us to move up the ladder in the SEC. Go dawgs...

I love the enthusiasm, I really do.....But "No excuse, must win"? Auburn has maintained top 10 recruiting classes the last few years, so even if they have had a lot of attrition and new coaches, or whatever else, they still have a lot of top talent. Do I think we can win? Yes....will win? maybe....."no excuse, must win"? Absolutely not.

I agree this is a must win situation but....

I wouldn't take it that far.

We are striving to move up the SEC pecking order and winning these types of games have got to become almost a sure bet for us to do that. Thus, I think a loss on sat deals our program a real setback. But, we are no where near discussing a new coach if we lose it.

At some point in your life...

You have downed a red bull and punched a hole through a wall haven't you? It was right after you made this post wasn't it? You won't respond soon because you're in the middle of an Insanity workout and you've still got 15 minutes until your next 5 Hour Energy break so you can check the pack and message board yell at the pussies who aren't as hardcore about this game as you.

you have every right to come here and rant and rave about must wins, no excuses, blah, blah, blah, but the bottom line is that as long as we are going to bowls every year, Dan Mullen can name the length of time that he wants to be our head coach.

I can only imagine the coaches we'll attract if we run off one of our programs most successful coaches because OM is the only team in the west he can beat. Let's ignore the bowl games he's winning along with the momentum he's building with recruits.

It's a "must" win if we are to go 2-0 to start the year. Otherwise, at this point in the program it's not a "must" win in order for him to be on any kind of hot seat...nice try though.

I agree in your

general premise that we must be Auburn. It's year four and it's time to start pulling out a victory over someone in the west. Arkansas, LSU, and Alabama are too far ahead. Auburn is our best shot (not including A&M, just old SECW).

And that's the way it should be for a 10 year period. After that, it becomes similar to the RS and RP situations. We should learn from those. Once we reach a certain level, we should strive for and expect the next level. We shouldn't settle for mediocrity.

But.......Going 7 and 5 in football is better than winning the west in basketball. At least in this era.

Gosh almighty. I see some of these responses and it drives me crazy.

A lot of you have accepted mediocrity. Eeyore's voice - "Oh, we're State. We aren't supposed to beat Auburn. I'm happy with 7 wins and going to the Meinke Car Care Bowl."

Go to a bowl every year and name the length of time???? You're kidding right. Auburn has top recruiting classes???.....that is an excuse. You know, and I know those classes haven't panned out. It's recruiting hype. They have landed 4 and 5 star thugs that have either been kicked off the team, suspended, or riding the bench.

This is simple.....Our team vs Their team--- WE ARE BETTER. We are more experienced, we have more Srs. The battle in the trenches shouldn't even be close. They got 1 guy on the DL that is legit (Lemonier).

Mullen needs to have us prepared to beat their ***. We gotta turn the corner in the win column. This beat Ole Miss and go to a bowl and be happy is just crap. And its a LOSER's mentality. Our OOC is a freaking joke. Ole Miss is a joke. UK is a joke. It's year 4 and its now time to beat Auburn, beat A&M, and maybe beat Arkansas. etc. Beating Arkansas would be an upset, I get that. But we are favored against Auburn. We are the better team. I don't want to see State lay an egg Saturday. And I damn sure dont want to see Mullen make the horrible coaching blunders that he made last year in Auburn that cost us that game. Honestly, he F'd up the Cam game in 2010. After that onside kick, we should have run the ball and rammed it down Auburn's throat. They couldn't stop us. Instead Relf through 3 passes. Am I remembering that right? Doesn't matter.

Maybe I have had too many Red Bulls, but I'm tired of being mediocre. We can be better. Any coach can be mediocre. Croom was a disaster. The program is better with Mullen. But let's not forget Mullen's most successful year was with Croom's players. The jury is still out on Dan's head coaching abilities. I want us to go out there Saturday and beat the dog snot out of Auburn. I want all doubt on Mullen's coaching ability to be squashed. I don't mind telling you, I have doubts and I am not alone. I want him to make me and anybody else that ever doubted him look like a fool. It starts Saturday. The significance of this game can not be understated.

And yes I know many of you already think I am a fool for posting this, but I really don't care. You can stick your head in the sand, you can close your eyes, you can make excuses, and/or you can accept being average.....but I don't want to do any of that. I want to win. And this team has the talent to win this Saturday. Its put up or shut up time for Mullen. It really is. Frankly I am a little shocked nobody agrees with me.

That Auburn's offense could score more on those schools last year but not hold them to less points? In other words, nothing.

I agree with some of your sentiment. However, being a 3 pt favorite at home indicates that the teams are even. 3 pts is generally the home field advantage. What that indicates is that we are fairly even team so coaching and execution will determine the game.

Or we are not getting any better...

It's time to win a few games we aren't supposed to win, and maybe beat a team ranked in the Top 20 for once in his career as ahead coach.

Yes. You can certainly argue the teams are even...so....COACHING and execution will determine the game. Our coach, needs to coach a great game. His last 2 auburn games have been pathetic. 2010 he gets a pass. Early in his coaching career and AU did go on to win the Ship. At the time they played us, they still didn't know what they had in Cam or how to use him to maximize his potential.

then mediocrity shall be the "norm"... for the near future.

consistent 4-4 SEC record is a good, potentially attainable goal for MSU, regardless of who you beat... but I get your point, the opportunity to beat AU (& UT) doesn't come along very often and yall certainly should seize the moment...

hey spaz. there isnt a single person here that doesnt want to win all our games and lay claim to the national title but also in the real world, dan mullen isnt getting fired for winning a bowl game every year.

and thats not a losers mentality. its a reality

Well, I suppose I'm in the minority here.. but I completely agree with everything you say. I pretty much said this word for word to a buddy of mine (who's a UT fan), and he couldn't believe it. His response was that we "should just be happy beating ole miss every year and making a lower-tier bowl game". If that's the case, then we will never get better. State will finish 5th or 6th in the West every year. And dammit, I don't know about the rest of ya'll, but eventually I want to win something other than the Music City Bowl. This is Mullen's game, it's his first "must-win" since he took over the program. If we lose, it will be a repeat of 2011, if we win, I think we can have a better year than 2010.

I've been a long time lurker, and I understand this is the "anti-genespage". That's why i frequently visit. But State fans need to quit settling. There's no reason we should lose this game. I think we win big. 34-13.

So we need to win more games to get better. Keen insight.

Sorry to be a dick, but that's all I get out of this. Give me 7 win season and I'll be content. Give me 8+ and I'll be thrilled.
