Yes, I do believe. He has a lot more invested in this than someone who has no ties with the community or program. I don't think he's going to 'ruin his legacy ' as some here claim he will do. He's going to have to learn to get tougher on the outside. Like someone else alluded, some of these kids likely WANT him to have an ******* streak. They need a leader.

Is it possible he becomes a winner here? I guess it is possible, but he wasn't really a winning coach at his previous jobs and he has failed here so far. Recruiting will just get more difficult after a bad season. Just don't see any reason for optimism. Of course a decent percentage of fans also wanted to give BCG more time.
Legitimately, in any other era, I’d argue that it’s too soon to be considering getting rid of the coach after this year.
But we’re in the transfer portal/NIL era. Every coach is starting over at the end of the year trying to convince their current guys to return while recruiting other players from other programs to improve things. It doesn’t take 3-4 years to effect change on a program. Success is immediate if the coach is good enough and will consistently be good if they’re able to recruit the portal well.
Who’s to say what has happened this year won’t happen again? A good coach should never have this bad of a season with the portal always offering coaches an opportunity to improve upon their previous year’s weaknesses.
Does BBN have the time to wait for Pope to become the coach we wanted him to be when he was hired? How many loses and how many seasons will it take? Can we wait and see that nothing changes next year and we continue to lose and people on here will say he needs another year!

Pope doesn’t have it. You don’t learn. You’re talking about personality traits that are engrained in the man. I’ve worked with so many coaches, been on hiring committee la etc. It is painfully obvious pope is not the guy. He has no appeal to the kids he needs to be successful. That’s why we end up with choice 3 or 4. His personality works in the Mormon community that understand his tangents. Last year pope was fortunate because carr, brea, butler, Williams those guys were all grown men who could work out their differences and make decisions. Mark didn’t have to coach that team. He just had to manage it. But that’s not uk bb. We need a coach that can develop players. Barring a miracle pope isn’t going to be back. The movement against him is greater than against BCG. I think it’s because UK fans knew it was a bad hire and Barney tried to make us believe our lying eyes if that’s the right saying. We all knew it that night and pope severely crapped the bed.
It’s not “microwave fans” who are destroying this program. It’s fans who gladly placate every lie Mitch Barnhart tells us.
We’re a bunch of yokels to people like Barnhart. And considering how many fans happily accept decades of mediocrity, he isn’t wrong.

Im 43 and been a cowboys fan my whole life. So I know how long these things can take. No NFC Championship game since I was a kid. UK can *** this up so bad it takes decades to fix. So of us will never see another final four or title game appearance. Its fact and anyone can blast me but the product of the game and the money these kids get make it almost impossible. Ive accepted that the team we all love isnt the same thing it used to be. This is a bad product will bad coaching that wont sniff a E8 in next 3 years.
