Of course, you can do what you want. That doesn't prevent me from complaining about it. My eyes...

Not calling anyone out personally, but the Saints bandwagon crap is out of control. It is like a bunch of damn Bama fans. I know several people who could not tell you anything about the saints last year, who now end every sentence with who dat.

I am not a Saints fan, but you have to be crazy not to be pulling for the Saints right now.

We just never had anything to cheer about, but does not mean we were not fans. I cannot tell you how many Sundays I have suffered watching them blow games every way possible, after doing the same exact thing the Saturday before. To get to this point, and what it means for the city of New Orleans, you cant help but be excited.

Prince(joke). Favre?

Or the Jets? The underdog story of the year quite possibly.

You don't understand that Louisiana is a stones throw away, that katrina ravaged our state and theirs, that the Saints trained in Jackson for 2 years.....that people in this area simplly love NOLA the city.

I am honestly surprised there are fewer Titans and Falcons fans, since Nashville and Atlanta are both closer cities (obviously depends on how far north and east you are)

Same thing for basketball. How can you like New Orleans in football but not like the Hornets in basketball? Or the Braves in baseball but not the Falcons in football? For the record I am a fan of none of those teams, still I've always pulled for the Saints whenever they play other teams.

Not that it's a big deal, I've just always wondered. I know a lot has to do with the Saints being around long before the Titans or the Hornets.

Not being able to get home from church fast enough. By the time we made it in, the Saints were already down 2 td's. My how times have changed.

how does one become a fan of a team?

typically it is proximity to said team, friends or family members are fans, or in the case of a college you end up going to school there. but there is one more reason that likely makes more fans than anything...a successful team. most people don't go purposefully following a team that sucks unless one of the other options i listed occurs. having success will create a crapload of fans. some of them will be fair weathered but some won't. hell even Mutt became a cowboys fan because they were good once back in the day like Bama.

i understand people being annoyed by others becoming fans during a successful season but you would be better served to just make fun of them next year when they aren't who dat'ing if the saints suck.

Because they represent the city of New Orleans, which while lots of fun on a Saturday night, is inhabited by possibly the worst citizens of the United States of America? People who live in a bowl by a lake in hurricane alley and then when the inevitable happens, complain that the rest of the country isn't doing enough, fast enough, to help them out? People who shoot guns at rescue choppers? And lastly, a city who re-elected a mayor who is that big of an embarrassment? I don't really have a favorite NFL team, but all I know is that I do not support the New Orleans Saints.

ETA: That's just my opinion- I don't mind Saints fans. But I also don't see why anyone should be obligated to pull for them just because you're from the Southeast or because of Katrina.

you obviously have some strong political/social views that sway you on this.

I have never gone throught that level of analysis. But pretty much everything you said describes Jackson and Memphis or any other major city in the southeast.

I think I laid out why I think people should cheer for them. But you are certainly entitled to do what you want regarldess of how puzzling it is.

You had to listen on the radio because the games were blacked out....You listened to the Saints on the radio, and watched the Brett Favre led Packers on tv.

only ten miles further away from Starkville than Nashville and Atlanta. It's a quicker drive than Nashville, and an easier drive (Gordo, Reform, B'ham-ATL perimeter traffic/construction) than Atlanta.

Don't get me wrong, Nashville and Atlanta are fine cities, but when you consider culture, nightlife, cuisine, and general history... how can you not choose New Orleans? Add to that what's already been mentioned about the Katrina recovery in NOLA and on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and you have more than enough reason for folks in Bulldog country to pull for the Saints...

It's only natural.

I have been trying to chose an NFL team for a few of years now, when I got into fantasy football. I consider all good teams of the time off limits b/c of obvious bandwagon disqualifications. A couple years ago I was all set to sign with Arizona, but Kurt Warner 17ed that up so I had to go back to the drawing board. This year I decided that Miami was worth a look. Although I didnt keep up their season, but a viewing of Ace Ventura on network TV sealed the deal. they were mediocre to bad this year, right?

Is that a stupid reason for being a Dolphins fan? Absolutely, but its a damn better reason then "because they're good." I plan on doing some research on roster, history, traditions, ect. before next season. Probably going to get a custom jersey and a fathead for my wall. Then I will go ape-**** for every game and come home drunk and post all kinds of gibberish here on the pack. Its going to be great, I can't wait.

understand people from north MS not pulling for them, but from central down, i don't see how one COULDN'T be a saints fan. i've grown up going to N.O. and while the city may be terrible in some aspects, it's a blast in many others. as 8 mentioned, the saint's used to practice in jackson. hell they have their radio show in MS half the time.

edited to add: i'd venture to guess that the majority of people bitching about color change are from north ms or never frequented N.O.
