Pete Boone tweeted that Ole Miss has the largest freshman class in the history of MS. Come to find out - that's not incoming freshman. That's just people classified as freshman as I was told. So someone could be counted as a freshman for 3 years. I think if you have less than 24 hours - you are still a freshman.

It's like counting Jerrell Powe in 3 separate signing classes.

I don't know what is more sad, the tweet wars of this insignificant crap or that someone decided to go check the stats.

You see, our administration is running our school, promoting what we are doing, and having a little fun along the way.

At Ole Miss, there is nothing you have done in the past year that wasn't a DIRECT attempt to chase us. You know it, we know it, and your administration damn sure knows it. If I were an Ole Miss fan this would bother me as much, if not more, than losing on the field. You are now chasing the leader. Flagship!

All I know is that the last two classes of incoming freshmen at Ole Miss have both been records for our school, and we're likely to be over 20K enrollment overall.

I know enrollment smack is all the rage on the internet, and I know MSU is supposedly going to be over 20K too. Bottom line, enrollment is well up at both schools. And as usual, neither is leaving the other in the dust.

As much as our fans hate to admit it, we're both in the same boat, and neither has ever been able to overtake the other. I see nothing on the horizon changing that for either school.

ETA: On that note, we are the flagship, always will be. It's just something you are. It's not something you can claim or take. It doesn't matter who has the most students, who has the biggest stadium, who won the most recent football, tennis, cricket match, whatever. It just is. I don't get what the arguments are about that. For whatever reason, it bugs the **** out of State fans for us to tell you about how we're the flagship, which is apparently our administrations way of taking juvenile jabs back at you. You should enjoy it. After all, that's what you have been hoping for. For example, Arizona State is about twice the size of Arizona, but Arizona is and always will be the flagship for their state. It just is what it is.

So you're saying that when State celebrates something, puts up a billboard, or tweets a direct shot at Ole Miss, its promoting the school. But if Ole Miss even tweets something positive about the school, we're chasing you. I can't even describe how stupid your "logic" is.

the upper hand and seems to be doing better than UM, the bear fans say we are basically the same and it's just part of the cycle. But when UM seems to be doing better, the bears are far toosuperior to even recognize that MSU is even their rival.

Ole Miss is the flagship to University of Mississippi @ Tupelo. That's the way it works. Everyone in Mississippi is under the control of the IHL. This isn't Maryland where everyone is under the University of Maryland System, which include Maryland at College Park (the Flagship), UM @ Baltimore County, UM @ Eastern Shore, etc...Ole Miss fans trying to claim Flagship Status is dumb, and if Ole Miss fans want to claim it then it's just funny. Nobody cares. It's just a stupid slogan like 'The People's University'.

And I certainly don't understand your line about 'what we've been waiting for'? Ole Miss has been using the Flagship moniker for years now. The reason that your Administration is 'firing back' so to speak is because folks like yourself (and the Administration) have finally come to terms with the fact that yes "we're in the same boat".

Egads! You are no better than Mississippi State University, oh the horror. How the mighty have fallen.

Y'all don't have 20,000 students. You know that. State has several thousand more students in Starkville than Ole Miss has students in Oxford.

Although I will say that I can't help but laugh when both schools always talk about the record size of their incoming freshman class. More and more people attend college nowadays, and it seems as if every college is growing rather rapidly.

If I really gave an OMBD, I have the ability to look it up. As it is, I am content thinking Petey was wrong.

Tell me the direct shot at Ole Miss? We are just showing pride in our school and our state, you guys take it as a direct shot because you are fomenting your newly hatched inferiority complex. And I was not addressing your tweets, I was addressing the new drive to improve Gameday experience at Ole Miss (after the talk about how much MSU improved), the new focus on the EggBowl (after MSU made it a focus and started whipping that ***), the new drive for funds to build improvements (after MSU announced a new football facility and stadium expansion).

Look little brother, I know you are pretty *$*+#*# stupid but if you want to pretend Ole Miss isn't chasing us then you have gone full retard. All you guys need to scurry back to your hole and pray that this "cyclical" change comes back around soon. Because I for one am sick of acting like we are the same. We aren't. We are better than you in every sport and we proved it on the field last year. Back in your hole *****.

We could just as easily say you were chasing us after our least expansion. Or that the entirety of your recent initiatives are chasing us altogether. Or when you went and got a bigger Jumbotron after we got a big one. Or when you've done ... anything. Such as, say, the creation of "the Junction" tailgating area, attempts at gentrifying downtown Starkville to chase the Square, awkwardly advertising Starkville as "Mississippi's college town" after decades of Oxford being simply known as same, and the billboards themselves. Here's a tip, though. Winning beauty pageants isn't relevant anymore to anyone but white trash, so if you want to brag on that, go ahead. You can have that one.

If you really believe the billboards aren't about Ole Miss, you are not just full retard, you are lobotomized. You probably don't believe in global warming or evolution either.

I love anything like the billboards, though, because they set you up for egg on your face sooner or later. Just saying. We enjoyed "Landsharks!" too until it was used to mock us.

Boone's tweet about enrollment isn't chasing ****. It's your fault for bragging about being "the one school in this state" with the record for highest enrollment without the foresight to realize Ole Miss hadn't started school yet for the year. Similar to lacking the foresight to realize that despite what you'd like to believe, you will at some point get beat by this school again in football. Or like you you have that tattoo that says "Kid Rock" without foresight to realize you might want to get a job later in life.

and we have as many grads there as you do. When I was down there so did USM. Milsaps and MC nearly did too. We will have over 20 K on the main campus. You won't be close.

As shown by his congratulatory tweets following every one of their wins. As for the rest of your post, I have no comment other than I'm pretty sure you're a regular commenter on the CL.

When state higher ed boards talk about Flagship schools, they are referring to their land/sea grant schools, the ones that have the most direct financial ties/obligations to the state and therefore the duty to serve its populace. This is why state extension services operate out of those schools. In most cases, the Flagship enjoys a large enrollment (look at UGA, LSU, UK, UARK, UTENN, UF). But it is land grant status that makes you the flagship, not enrollment, popularity, or name for that matter. As much as you may want to argue it, U of Alabama, U of S. Carolina, UNC, U of Texas are not the flagship schools. Auburn, Clemson, NC State, and A&M are. They may or may not be the most popularly known, but that is a PR function, not a governmental one.

On a second note, the land grant system is also a little deceptive because land sales of college property to the state can actually classify a school as a partial land grant . Also, because of the politics of segregation, some minority schools were originally given land grant status. For both reasons, Alcorn State University describes itself as the oldest public historically black land grant institution in the United States. You'll see something like that in most states.

In review, your comment about OM being the Flagship is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have
ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent post were you
even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.
Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having listened to it. I award
you no credibility, and may God have mercy on your soul. (Yes I plagiarized that from Billy Madison).

If you want the title of Flagship, stand at the back of the line behind State and Alcorn.
