That one will leave a mark.
I don’t think so. I think most Ole Miss fans recognize we are the #2 baseball program in the state. I can live with that.
I also think it’s a reach as far as a comparison, but it’s interesting, I’ll give him that. Ole Miss fans need to prepare themselves (ourselves?) that if Bianco goes to LSU he is going to win big. Those 18-12 SEC seasons will be 20-10 there, and with LSU across their chest that equals a Top 4 national seed and easier path to Omaha. Plus their scholarship advantages and superior recruiting base (Louisiana is more populated and you don’t have MSU and Dudy Noble in your state) will give him deeper rosters. He will do well, and I’d be willing to bet he makes 2+ Omaha trips in 5 years.
I think my excitement on how this plays out will greatly depend on who replaces him. If we somehow back door our way into McDonnell, I’ll be ecstatic. I think he’s a Top 5 coach who’d be coming to a Top 20 program, and that equals big success. Similarly, Bianco is a Top 20 coach going to a Top 5 program, which probably equals as much, if not more, success.

We have made 3 trips to Omaha in 3 years so you think we are better than LSU with Bianco? Sounds good to me!
The Ole Miss media is setting the Ole Miss fan base for a let down if anyone other than McDonnell or Godwin is their coach in 2022. Whether it's Bianco or a new coach not named Dan or Cliff, they will be very disappointed. The Spirit guy and the Rebel Grove guys have stated very clearly that they fully expect LSU to hire Bianco and they don't expect the Ole Miss search to get past the top-2 candidates. One of them said that he was talked down from 76% likelihood to 65% likelihood that McDonnell would be the Ole Miss coach in 2022. Maybe they're right, but the way they talk about it with such a level of certainty makes me think this is heading towards a rug pull.
The things I don't understand:
- Why would LSU (top-5 job) hire a guy Ole Miss fans want to get rid of and think they are better without?
- Why would McDonnell (a top-5 coach according to some) turn down LSU (top-5 job) and then take the Ole Miss job?
- If Godwin is an upgrade over Bianco, why doesn't LSU hire Godwin?
The best answer I've heard for the first question is that LSU is in a position of needing to hire a squeaky clean coach due to non-baseball athletics department issues and Bianco is the best squeaky clean coach available.
The best explanation I've heard for the second question is that McDonnell has coached at Ole Miss previously and has a child in school there.
The best explanation I've heard for the third question is similar to the first question. Godwin is single and that apparently is hurting his candidacy.
Maybe they prove to be right, but even if they are ultimately right, I doubt that at this moment it is as likely as they are telling the Ole Miss fan base.
Whaaa..... so you guys want to “backdoor” McDonnell? I guess if you are into that sort of thing.
Is there something wrong with that?

I realize Louisville baseball didn't exist before Dan McDonnell, but neither did Ole Miss baseball before Bianco.
I don't get why they are so dead set on this sidegrade. There's one name I pray doesn't end up in Oxford, and it's not McDonnell, and he's 100% more gettable.
There is ZERO chance they hire Godwin or McDonnell. ZERO. They should prepare themselves to hire the guy from Samford. Or maybe Campbell.

Nope.
I guess the hope is that since McDonnell was at OM in the past he would come back? I really don’t know. But he has turned down some big time programs in the past. Plus he and Lemonis are best friends going back to their playing days at the Citadel. Would he be willing to jump into a heated rivalry with him?
Why do you say there's zero chance they hire Godwin? Its a much better job and they would damn near triple his salary. There is ZERO chance they hire Godwin or McDonnell. ZERO. They should prepare themselves to hire the guy from Samford. Or maybe Campbell.
