does he really need his ego stroked anymore? A one hour special? And don't give the line about helping the Boys & Girls club out, justannouncewhere you are going and them cut them a fat check. Stunts like this give the rest of us a glimpse at the big picture with LeBron and why he will never win a NBA Championship.

No. It's the same thing. Do players that host signing day parties and announce on TV become less of a player to you?

The biggest reason for this monster of free agency and the media bonanza is the fact that it's taking place during the middle of Major League Baseball season when the only other sporting event of significance is the World Cup, which the US is no longer a part of. What else can ESPN talk about or cover? The Yankees over the Orioles? Who cares? This free agency period is no different than the weeks leading up to signing day, except it's in the NBA, so it's bigger nationally.

dedicated to them signingsomewhereas a free agent? Especially when it looks like he will stay in Cleveland. This is all a huge look at me party and I think it sucks.<div>
</div><div>To compare this to a signing day party isasinine. At most a kid gets 5 minutes of air time and only ahandfulare even live. But hey you are RebelBruiser and recruiting is your porn so you do look at it differently than most of us. </div>

And the Heat is undoubtedly Wade's team. Good move for Bosh though.

Should help Varnado. With two max players, the Heat will need some cheap contracts. Varnado will be that, and he can play defense and rebound at the 4 or 5. (of course, he still needs more strength, but his lack of offensive prowess isn't as big of a deal with Bosh starting)

Why not just cut them a check after you announce? The whole reason that they are giving the money to the Boys & Girls club is so that itdoesn'tlook like LeBron is the egomaniac that he is. It's just a bull **** PR move. But hey, I am sure we won't hear the Boys & Girls club complain..... I'm just calling it what it is.

Uhhhh...me? Call me crazy, but I long for the olden days when SportsCenter was made up of highlights, stats and interviews. Now it's about 25% that and 75% sponsored segments and in-studio banter/opinion. July is a slow month for sports, but baseball is played every night. Unfortunately most of America is not like me (your loss, America) and is happy and content seeing all this NBA free agency babble or the Budweiser Hot Seat or Who's Next or the Coors Light Whatever they sponsor or two reporters arguing back and forth in a pre-determined pseudo-argument. Meanwhile, I am tuned in to the MLB Network watching live lookins of actual games, hearing stats, and getting current scores of you know, sports games.

I'm sure. Why are you so butthurt over a show you don't have to watch? He created new donations to charity, above and beyond what he would give anyway. yet somehow this is bad.

You dont even like the NBA, just go ahead and include that.

You obviously need to care much more about whether or not Lebron James is an ego maniac and whether or not he'll ever win a title. If you did, you would be irate. So my advice is to care a lot more about the motives of people you've never met and will probably never know personally. Then form an opinion, become unjustifiably incensed over it, and bang out a tirade on the internet.

Exactly. As nauseating as it gets watching the 24/7 free agency stuff, it's apparently what a lot of people want to see. ESPN, while I find their programming outside of live sports pretty terrible, is apparently doing just fine for itself. They wouldn't air it if they couldn't sell ads and get viewers. In reality, dumb commentators with divisive opinions attracts a lot more attention.

He couldn't justannounceit randomly? He has to let everyone know 2 days ahead of time and have a one hour special about himself? Yea thats how free agencyusuallygoes. When did the Paul Pierce special air? When did the A-Rod of C.C. Sabathia special air? Good for the Boys& Girls club, Lebron is still a ringless prima donna.<div>
</div><div>My dislike for LeBron started when he was at the Mo Williams basketball camp in Jackson. They guy was a total prick to everyone there.</div>

However, I realize that it is not all LeBron's fault. The media has a story and it will run with it.

That being said, I still hate the idea that the supposedly best player on the planet feels like he has to go somewhere stocked with super stars to win a title. Cleveland is only a good point guard away from a title as it is.

Doesn't matter though. The Lakers are going to threepeat.

Trying to catch World Cup and MLB highlights, I saw this segment on ESPN and ESPNnews a couple of times. Awesome.

Now comes the real story. As far as I've seen from Lebron, he seems to handle himself better than most professional athletes out there.

So he wasn't in a mood to smile and shake hands all day one time when you met him, that doesn't change the fact that he plays the game much more unselfishly than other superstars, and he's managed to keep his nose out of the dirt despite having everything handed to him basically since he was a teenager.

Next time maybe he'll kiss your baby for you and sign your hat. I don't know the guy personally, but I'd imagine it's hard to keep a happy persona at all times when you're doing appearances left and right.

And no this is no different than having a signing day party. The only reason it's going to get so much play is because he's a lot bigger than any college football signee. Why can't signees just announce their decision and sign their papers at home with their family? Why do they need TV appearances and press conferences? Might as well take advantage of the spectacle of it all and make a donation out of it.

Lebron probably has a big ego. He freaking should. He's one of the best ever at his business. He probably should have a bigger ego than he shows.

if you don't think Sportscenter was doing a special on the 1st day that FAs can actually sign, then you must be new to this planet. Sportscenter does a special for EVERYTHING and this is hardly small potatoes. And what the hell does him winning an NBA title have to do with doing a TV special? Kobe Bryant has an ego bigger than the collective world (and is reportedly a HUGE dick) and he has won 5. Jordan had a huge ego as well. Not many huge superstars DON'T have big egos.

If walking by him and his entorage while he was walking into the P.F. Chang's in Ridgeland last year and thinking "wow, that guy looks just like LeBron James" counts as meeting someone.
Still don't care about the whole free-agency circus, though.

I can understand ESPN having wet dreams over the decision,. They have been slobbering all over themselves for a week now, but his request of the special surprised me a bit. Of course I don't know LeBron, but the image that has been presented by media previously is that he is humble and down to earth.

Just cause you don't watch does not make LeBron any less of an attention *****. Personally I hope wherever he ends up fails to win a title, unless it is Cleveland, just because of how he has handled this.

You didn't seeKarl Malone trying to go play with Michael Jordan or Patrick Ewing trying to play withMagic Johnson. These guys knew they were great playersand tried to win a title for the teams that they were identified with their entire career. They never tried to "stack the deck" to win a title.

Really going out on a limb there. I am a huge Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant fan and as bad as I hate to say it they were not in MJ's league. Jordan was and still is in a class by himself.

Me? I call that stacked.

Yes those were great teams but I used players that never won a championship in my example (ie Malone and Ewing). Point being they never felt the need to go chasing a title with other All Stars because they felt they were good enough to win where they were.

edited to add: Karl Malone did go to the Lakers late in his career but in his prime he stayed in Utah.

Umm... Karl Malone went to LA with Gary Payton so they could try and win a title with Shaq and Kobe. Didn't work.

And lets not pretend the financial situation of the NBA was the same in the eighties and early nineties. Let's also not blame the players for this. If some one is willing to pay you max money, and then pay another guy max money, and maybe one more, why wouldn't you do it? You win championships with multiple super stars, and the system is set up so that a lot of superstars are on the move. I don't blame them. It's the owners that are trying to stack the deck, and it worked for Boston and LA recently.

...yet you are a huge Kobe fan who will never leave L.A and their 91 million dollar payroll. Give me a break. Why doesnt Kobe go off and join a smaller team with no superstars and see what he can do?
