Watched the replay 10 times and if 88 had at least slowed down 24 (sorry to go Jackie on you but I am too lazy to look up names) as he ran past him Lee would have had a second to put more touch on it. It also looked like Jones was planning to go high to meet the airborne Dixon so he was in position to jump up and get the pass. We're cursed.
Jones was leaving his feet to meet Dixon in the air, recognized the play and changed directions at the last second to knock down the pass. It was one of the most athletic plays I have ever seen. The TV replay showed it pretty clearly.
and there is no guarantee that Green catches it even if it doesn't get blocked. I've watched the replays so many times, that I have had nightmares over the crap. As Todd said, there is almost no way that LSU stops Dixon diving over the pile with a full head of steam. If Jones is able to stuff that, then he's a man's man. I would say that the ability to jump up and block a pass is a hell of a lot easier than taking on a 235 lb. running back diving at him with a lead blocker in front. We should never have relied on a below-average QB to make a crucial play or option "read" with the game on the line. Give the ball to your best player and force the defense to basically do the impossible. I didn't like the option play on 4th down either-too many things could go wrong (bad pitch, fumbled pitch, pitch tipped by defender, etc.) for it to be used on the goal line.

and I marvel at it. We weren't running difficult plays. These were basic plays that should have been made.
Not the first time I've seen my beloved Dawgs blow a won game, but we needed it so badly that I can't get myself out of mourning.
The closest comparison I can get is the time we were kicking a field goal to beat Ole Miss and the a sudden gust of wind blew it backwards as it reached the goal post. Of couse, this one was self-inflicted, not an act of nature. However, I do vaguely remember us blowing a nice lead in the fourth quarter and then having a chance to steal it back with that kick, so I guess some human error was involved in the plays that led up to the need for the field goal.

It is 4th down. Who gives a 17 if you fumble. If you don't get in, it is over anyway. Do a superman with that 17ing ball.
