The 2011 MSU team desperately needs as pass rushing DL, a middle LB, and OTs. I'm afraid those position groups are going to be liabilities next year as well. We aren't going to get that Autry guy, and as far as I know we aren't even talking to a JUCO OT or LB. That's insane to me.

but the thing is, these guys need to be recruited 2-3 years before the holes are there. We've got serious gaps now because of some big misses a few years ago and the part that has me really disappointed about things in general is that it just doesn't seem to be getting any better. I'd be happy as hell right now if we were going 6-6 or 7-5, knowing that our recruiting was setting us up to have some monster years in the near future. But the problem is that our current recruiting isn't just telling us that there will be holes next year. It's telling us that we're going to be going through the same **** for the next 3-4 years.

I've seen no indication that Mullen and company are willing to play the game, so I think we're going to have a division of the fanbase coming up. There are going to be those that are happy with his personality, 6-6 seasons, and just making it to a bowl game. Then there are going to be those with higher expectations that want to see continued progress. It will be interesting...

After the AU ruling it has now become SOP to ante up if you want any chance to land top recruits. The NCAA might eventually make us a whipping boy but what choices do we have? We can either pay like the big boys and risk the hammer or do it by the book and lapse into complete irrelevance for the foreseeable future. At least the first choice gives us a prayer. We've just got to be smarter about it like AU and cover our tracks better.

what I call the "Emory Bellard" syndrome. That being he's a little arrogant in that he has so much confidence in his coaching ability that he truly believes he can win with whoever is willing to sign on with his program. Therefore the "relentless" effort of the coaching staff in recruiting is just not there. Why should it be if you really believe you can win with whoever you end up signing. Emory Bellard was EXACTLY that way and it didn't work for him in the long run and in the end it won't work for Dan either. It takes outstanding coaching AND outstanding players to win in this league. In a lesser league outstanding coaching alone probably would work but not in the current SEC. Part of it is not "playing the game" but part of it is Mullen just doesn't like recruiting and all the schmoozing involved with it, if you listen to him its pretty obvious that that is probably his least favorite part of the job.

There's a happy medium somehwere between him and Stans in recruiting. Stans only has 13 scholarships. Mullen has 85. Can you imagine the chaos if we 6 times as many prima donnas on the football team as we do on the basketball team.

Is Mullen ok with going 6-6, 7-5 with usual bowl appearances? I don't think that he is. I think he wants to win championships. Also, I think he is young and still learning and building our program in the right direction, but you don't fix the cluster17 that was Croomsball for 5 years in 3. We're significantly better and moving the right direction.

We redshirt the vast majority of our recruits which means the first classes that was really his are just freshmen/sophomores on the field.
