A 13 Morehead St. beats a 4 Louisville, a 12Richmond beats a 5Vandy, and that's only in the 1st half of the 1st day. There is stillthe night session tonightand the whole day tomorrow. There is quality depth on some of these mid major teams, and unless you follow them regularly, it's very hard to judge how they willperform on the big stage. Not many people had heard of Kenneth Faried of Morehead St. until today, and he grabbed 17 boards and 12 points against Louisville. These scrappy mid majors are impossible to predict now.

Vandy had a chance at the buzzer but threw a dead duckthat wouldn't have hit an olympic sized trampoline.</p>

Two dunks blocked down the stretch? They were playing flatfooted the last 3 minutes of that game.

Granted, it was my 3rd bracket that I purposely made heavy on upsets. It could turn to **** very quickly.

I love this ****. The major conference teams spend all year beating up cupcakes and playing their inbred version of intra-conference basketball. Then, they face a team with decent talent that really knows how to play ball. They don't know what hits them and get upset.

I would say 5 years ago you wouldnever have more than one or twomid majors have a shot at the Sweet 16. This year teams like BYU, SDSU, Xavier, Richmond, Utah St, and Gonzaga are all legit contenders to make it to the Sweet 16or further. College basketball has really changed drastically over the past few years. The big schools still get their recognition, but the md major is the sexy pick now, and they are proving that by winning on the big stage. I personally didn't think Vandy could lose to Richmond. Thought they had too much talent for Richmond to handle, and I certainly didn't think Morehead would beat Louisville.

But I only picked 1 12 over 5 this year, and that is Utah St over Kansas St. I picked 2 11's over 6's, and 3 10's over 7's. I'm not one to go with the sexyunderdog because a lot of people think it will happen. Richmond was a sexy pick to beat Vandy, but I stuck with Vandy. Same for Belmont, but I picked Wisconsin. I may end up missing on both of those too. I guess more homework is needed in the future on these mid major teams if I want to have a better bracket.

I pull for the SEC but the Vandyloss doesn'tseem to bother me much, especially after the Stallings comments after our game. That last play wascomedy in motion.

One of my pet peeves. Pick one bracket and stick to it. I could win the ESPN bracket pool every year if I picked enough brackets.
