This year's State team. USM was good in 2011, but they also had losses to UAB and Marshall. I personally think the 2011 State team could've beaten them.

When they busted Houston's BCS dream in the CUSA championship game they were hitting on all cylinders. Our last three games in 2013 against Ark, OM, and Rice we were hitting on all cylinders. I think we have way more talent, and that would be the difference maker.

We played like crap for a half against Uab and still easily won in the second. We were down that year, but usm wasn't anything special. They were good enough to beat a lot of b ad teams, but no good team was going to lose to USB that year. And it wasn't like the Marshall game where sum shot themselves in the foot. USB was just about as good as sum and outplayed tham that day. Our 2011 team could have lost to 2011 southern (where I'm not sure this team could have), but even the 2011 msu team likely would have taken care of business against them.

Something that stands out to me is that 35-34 win at Louisiana Tech. USM beat them 19-17 at home. We beat them 26-20 in OT, at home. In our defense, we brought the D+ game that day and still won when we had to. It should be noted that USM and Houston didn't have to run a gauntlet of Auburn and LSU right before that.

That's the trouble with comparing USM to MSU. Our competition is usually so hard, and theirs is usually so easy. You almost have to use a handicap when comparing the results in order to get a fair balance.
