When was the last time we started three pitchers that could legitimately throw into the 90's?

That's what happened this weekend.

pitching is all about location/control/throwing strikes and changing speeds. The value of velocity to me is it allows you more of a margin for error provided you can do the first two things that I talked about well.

What I was really inferring to was the fact that it is obvious that we are adding more and more talent.

and I hope Butch doesn't F his arm up?

I can't remember if I mentioned that.

Starters play better, it keeps us from digging in the bullpen. Bullpen plays better, less tension and everyone stays fresh. Pulling a starter when we are up 5 runs instead of 1 or 2 makes their job that much easier. Just the difference from last year to this year (so far) is quite noticeable.

I know that you are being sarcastic about Butch to degree- but Mitchell in high school was under the radar because he got hit in the face with a baseball while playing SS. In high school, he was topping out at 89. Now he is topping out at 95. Butch has to get some credit for that. I also have to credit Butch for finding him. But what really has impressed me is his control. He just pounds the strike zone.

To me, he doesn't look like he has filled out either. He should get stronger, and he will need to add another pitch as he continues- very similar to Chris Stratton last year, except that we don't have to ask Evan to be our ace and go nine every time out.

If he stays healthy- or as you say, if Butch doesn't F up his arm, he could be a fairly high draft pick by the time he is a junior.

what kind of movement do these kids have on their fastballs? That is key. I would rather hit a 90mph straight fastball as opposed to an 84mph fastball that moves the width of the plate. And if there is any downward movement at all, that is huge.

I played Juco and the 89-90 guys with no movement were my favorite to bat off of. The 84 guys with lots of movement were a biotch.
