So far it has been disappointment with a ray of guarded optimism

Disappointment obviously because we have lost four winnable games with three due to self inflicted causes (poor starting pitching, bad defense, and lack of hitting with RISP). A ray of optimism because it does appear that we have some pretty good pitching in the bullpen and are getting hits with multiple players on the roster capable of hitting.

Defense, especially at 2B is a concern and I have not been very impressed behind the dish either. I don't see Ligon staying in the weekend rotation. Simmons is on the bubble depending on if can cut down on free passes. I honestly can't see Hines helping us much this season and I hate that for him and the team.

At this point I think it is a coin toss as to whether or not we get things going in the right direction or crapping the bed. At the very least Lemonis should be coaching for his job and he has to either host a regional or get us to a super to keep it in my opinion.

My thoughts are we’ll do just enough for Lemonis to stay safe. The recruiting class will look good on paper. The stars of the class will never step foot on campus. We’ll have some transfers come in with good looking stats. They’ll bat below the Mendoza line.

We’ll go into the Texas weekend with our Friday starter having pitched against teams that are only slightly tougher than wet toast.

When I'm not in the moment of being pissed off about the losses, and I look from 10,000 feet. It's about what I expected. Some big holes to fill. Highfill was always concern defensively especially. The expectation that Hines was going to change his approach was wishful thinking at best. If a couple of guys step up, we can still have a good year. If that happens, we could still host a regional.

I believe this season will play out one of two ways. Option one, the wheels come off. Lemonis and the whole staff is let go. Selmon brings in a buddy from Oklahoma. Option two, we turn it around and have a similar season to last year. Basically right on the hosting bubble and leaving it in the committee's hands like last year. I really don't see this team getting in some where as a middle of the road 2 or 3. Outside of last year which for all it's ups and downs was a decent-ish year, Lemonis's tenure has been extreme highs and extreme lows. I lean toward option one playing out, and we start all over with our current administration hiring a new coach...

A bit disappointing so far, but too early to tell much of anything at this point.

The state of State baseball imo is the definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different result! Lemonis, again imo, has really never been a head coach that achieved much since the Natty that really wasn’t his. He has continually not produced clutch hitting, continually had really bad coaching decisions, continually had really bad base running errors that I don’t see other quality teams make, seldom see hitters become better in their years in the program and continually lose games to lesser teams.

I'm trying to be optimistic. I see signs of things that are better than in years past and I'm trying to remind myself of seasons we consider a success that had bad starts or bad stretches. However, I also see the same mistakes being made that seem easy enough to correct; especially from one season to the next.

As a former All-SEC player (still in pro ball) told me before the season, he inherited a team full of talent but also a team full of dirtbags
Now from his perspective, he said there are too many showcase kids and not enough dirtbags

I feel positive about most of the pieces, we just have to figure out where they all fit.

We've got some really promising young pitchers!
