32 Black football players went on "strike" last night. Today Gary Pinkel said that the football team stood united and suspended football activities. All of this is in response to a student going on a hunger strike to force the president of the university to resign amid charges of racism on campus. They are supposed to play BYU at Arrowhead Stadium this weekend.

I just heard about this today, haven't been following it. Did it somehow grow out of that Ferguson MO mess? Will be interesting to see whether they forfeit that game. I wonder what Pinkel means when he says the "stand behind" the players? Wonder what action he is willing to take? I couldn't tell from the story I saw why they think the school President needs to go. But if it is just because he hasn't solved the problem of racial incidents on a large state campus, then I'm guessing they will need to scale back that demand.

Missouri is 1 and 5 in conference. One...and...five. They suck. Turn loose this group of entitlement whiners, and find some damn football players that will 'actually' play football while not worrying about what some dumbass paints on a wall. The redneck may not even attend Mizzoo. Find the racist and beat the hell out of him, but the boss ain't steppin' down to your demands.

Pull the scholarships, boot the malcontents out, no more free chow and entitlements. Form your circular firing squad boys, it's a tough *** world out there...piss on your demands. Maybe the Rev Al will take ya in.

What is the allegation?
There was a swastika scrawled on a white wall of a dorm recently. It was written in human excrement. There have been other racial incidents on campus according to those involved. I am just not sure how the president has caused this or what he could do to stop it.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if the racial incidents are real though. I stopped and ate at a waffle house east of KC a few years ago. I was amazed at the open conversation I heard two dudes talking about nearby involving Obama, Hank Williams Jr., and various other important subjects. No filter was had by these two genius's.

There have been a number of racial incidents on this campus recently and all the students have been demanding is that the university take them seriously. All the black students at Missouri are seeking is a strong public stance by the university that racial demonizing of blacks is not to be tolerated or condoned. That doesn't seem unreasonable. When confronted about the most recent incident, the President of the school acted like a pompous, arrogant jerk who couldn't believe he was being bothered and forced to actually communicate with concerned students. Like it or not, the school needs black athletes more than black athletes need that particular school and I, for one, am glad these players realize that and are using their collective power to effectuate important changes.

Nonviolent collective action is how change happens in this country and I wish these players all the best.

Absolutely disagree here. What's wrong with what they're doing? They're the ones toeing the line for the university. Sure, scholarships are great and I'm not advocating to pay players, but they're sacrificing a lot for the school. The least the school can do is make it clear that behavior is not tolerated and do everything they can to prevent it in the future. It is a "tough *** world out there", for everyone, even if you're an administrator at a public university.

For the record, I'm not a huge fan of the black lives matter movement, but I think this is perfectly fine.

Racism is everywhere and is a terrible thing. But is it worse than someone willing to touch poop long enough to mold something on a giant wall.

These millennials are idiots, protesting racism, because two folks were called out of their name and a swastika was drawn using human fecal matter. How is getting rid of the University president going to stop or prevent this from happening in the future? Don't go to these schools and you won't have this problem. You are not gonna end racism by protesting!!! MLK didn't end it and neither did Jesus. These are affairs of the heart, choices that people make. You may change laws, but this still don't change hearts. One fool is even doing a hunger strike. Millennials are FOOLS!!!

One thing he did wrong is not give a hand written note apologizing for being white and having white privilege. You know, apologize for things out of his control. Hand written apology only.

fair enough...
I want to end my white privilage, so tomorrow I will be a mu player or get on air force 1. either or will be ok.

They don't want an apology. They want the university president to do his job and condemn racist incidents and make it clear that it's unacceptable -- immediately. What exactly was there to think about? Was it a complex issue? No. If there isn't an immediate response from the top, it's basically ok? It may be an overreaction from the protesters but I think it's great. Love to watch us play football? Then don't allow open racism on your campus. Pretty simple.

While I dont condone racism of any fashion, should someone lose their job anytime ANYONE is offended? I was offended by the foul language of an ESPN commentator on Twitter after the game. Therefore , the CEOs of Disney and Twitter must be replaced now. People say and do dumb crap. Its the price we way for living in a somewhat free society. You have a right to free speech, there is no amendment that says you are protected from offensive speech.

so i'm trying to wrap my head around this. The football team is threatening a boycott of football activities or a sit down strike if the grad student at mizzou doesn't end his hunger strike?

My great Aunt lived in Columbia Missouri for most of her adult life. She lived to be 102, and was a wonderful, liberal democrat, outspoken woman, who loved young people. She lived in her own house in town. About 4 years ago, a black man came and knocked on her door, and attacked her. He beat her to the floor, and kicked her. The only thing that saved her life was her daughter and granddaughter showed up unannounced. The man took a couple of things and ran out the back door. My Aunt never felt safe in her house again, and she had to move out into assisted living. Columbia used to be a much safer place than it is now. It has a very high crime problem. Fortunately, they found the man. He had several previous arrest, and my Aunt had to ID him in court. I should now ask for the Mayor of Columbia to resign?? No. Go out and do some positive things and get involved in improving the culture. These players cannot gain anything by taking the school hostage.

Use of human feces is usually a sign of a mentally disabled or mentally ill person being involved. This is not the kind of issue that should reach the president of the university unless it was mishandled badly by others below him. But as far as people involved, it would seem to be a nut job who also happens to be racist doing this.

The university response to this one will be interesting, as it will set a precedent for similar activities at other schools nationwide.

If there is truly a racist causing incidents on campus I hope he/she is caught and booted from school.

However, I have this sneaking suspicion that a lot of these incidents are hoaxes meant to create controversy to achieve liberal political goals. Here are the demands:

"Besides Wolfe's removal, the group's list of demands includes a comprehensive racial awareness and inclusion curriculum and an increase of black faculty and staff to 10 percent by the academic year 2017-2018."

http://abcnews.go.com/US/missouri-football-coach-gov-nixon-weigh-student-protests/story?id=35057745

Never let a crisis go to waste, even if you have to create it.

Again, the smart money is on hoax, and there is a history of it for political and attention-seeking that warrants suspicion:

"Of course, suspicion is warranted: Almost a year ago, Berkeley students similarly exploded after effigies of blacks hung from nooses appeared on the UC campus. It turned out they were hung by a “Bay Area collective of ***** black and PoC [People of Color] artists” to raise awareness."

Its the lack of response by the President that has people upset
He wouldn't even talk to students who stopped his car. 30 min standoff with no attempt to speak about it. He blew a great opportunity to show some compassion and to keep the lines of communication open. Big mistake that will likely cost him his job. If Mizzou forfeits, it will cost the university $1M in penalties.

For those of you claiming this may be a hoax, keep in mind, it's not just this one incident that has these students upset. It's the cavalier racism that has been allowed to perpetuate throughout this campus and its culture. This latest incident was just the last straw, coupled with the brave outspoken stance of a few students who aren't content with just "knowing their place" and accepting of being treated as second-class citizens. God bless them.

And for the claim that this won't end well for the protesting students and they won't get their demand met....I would happily take that bet. Collectively, black athletes have more power than a university president, who is imminently replaceable.

One also wonders if Pinkel would be as supportive if they didn't have a losing record this year. They are 4-5. Probably a good year for Pinkel to support a strike.

So his car was stopped by an angry mob and he didn't think that was an appropriate time to talk about this explosive subject? Sounds like a good move to me.
