I will repost my spot on predictions as I did against Nebby. The only one to express fear of a loss and say we would have no answer for Tominaga.
Congratulations you can beat your chest alone in your basement hope you are happy.

I had fears of the Nebraska game too, but I didn’t have the need to post it in a message board to get an atta boy.

Indiana has to be kicking themselves for letting that one get away last night. Could have been a game back on Purdue in the loss column with another matchup against them still on the schedule.

Watch the tide turn should we lose in Madison and these posters start to comprehend the dire straights. Of course, some will say Rutgers is in even if we drop 4, 5, 6 in a row.
Bro, this thread is about the disgrace that is Purdue basketball. They’ll get a 4 seed and maybe squeak into the second round if the 13 seed has a bad game.

I’m not sure why you’re still posting about Rutgers. CBI teams don’t interest anyone.

Purdue had some nice OOC wins early but they are not that good (Top 10-15). If you can somehow neutralize Edey at least to a point, they are average. Their guards are very young and the team is exceptionally slow. Eddy will keep them in just about every game however.

The NCAA tournament selection criteria, in order of importance:

#1 how did you finish??
#2 finish in conference standings
#3 conference record
#4 strength of schedule in March
#5 do you have any injuries to 25mpg guys? Major demerit if yes
#6, maybe resume/body of work/whatever. Not important really

Calling it right now. 8:30 Central Time. Rutgers doesn't make NCAAS. Mag loss too much to overcome. Very sad but the reality for the team. The very underwhelming BIG will sink our season, as will extra "loss" and one less win to Ohio State. That will cost us bid at end of day, IMO.

I bitched about that Ohio State steal more than anyone, and people said it wouldn't matter lol. Oh, it surely will matter. Will cost us NCAAs.

Purdue loss catastrophic for Rutgers' hopes. Win now looks ordinary.
“Dow plunges 15 points!”

Have you ever noticed that the media uses words like “crisis” for every little thing?

Purdue losing is not catastrophic. It’s a little bit of a problem. Our losing 4 of the next 5 would not be catastrophic. Our missing the NIT would not be catastrophic. Griffiths is still coming next year. Bailey and Warren are still coming in 2024. The trajectory Pike has us on is not altered by Purdue losing to Maryland.

Schiano leaving was catastrophic. Unless you think Purdue’s loss will motivate Pike to leave, let’s calm down.

No it won’t. Lol.

What will cost us the ncaa’s is a terrible end to the season
We’re not missing the NCAA tournament. Everyone who has bet against Pike has been wrong. Until he fails, he gets the benefit of the doubt. Only this nation’s reaction to COVID beat him.

I don’t think so either….but if we do it’s cause we blew it in late February/March. Not because of a missed call in January. That’s silly

North Western has a real shot to win the regular season and we are the last regular season opponent. If we don’t do some sort of turnaround starting Saturday, we could end up in the 11-14 group for the B1G
Tournament. Now the optimistic side— everyone one of our starting lineup has played better this year than they have in the last 3 games ( maybe excluding Hyatt), so if Paul, Cliff, Caleb, and Cam can move back to the good side, we can win 3or 4 of these next 5 games. Hopefully Pike has a good plan.

Makes our Maryland win better.
It does. Maryland still lacks front court depth but they are playing well, especially at home where they are undefeated in B1G games. Something, something tough place to play. Something, something huge student section. Something, something loud. Something, something Dark Side.

Whole league has been very overrated this season
Actually not true. Big 12 is rated by a mile as the best league and no other conference is close . Then the Big East because of their top 5 and then the BIG 10. Upsets happen nightly in every conference and home teams win a lot. The amount of ranked teams losing to unranked teams is going to break a record this year if it hasn’t already. Texas Tech can beat 3 of the top teams in the BIG 12 but teams like Penn State and Nebraska that were 11 and 12 in our league have also pulled upsets of top teams.
There are no great teams but injuries weaken teams that were very good as well.
I would still stack if injuries did not happen , Purdue , Rutgers, Indiana , Iowa, Illinois , Northwestern and Maryland and Michigan State against the top 8 in the BIG 12 and I think it would be very close.
If the Big 10 is overrated then the top 25 is overrated as well. Any team in any conference can lose to another and it wouldn’t be such an upset. No great teams just some good ones and all with flaws.

Well-said. I don't see anybody claiming the B1G is super this year. It's highly unlikely that the league will send anybody to the Final Four. Maybe not even to the Elite 8.

But it is clearly better than most, such as the ACC which is laughably weak this year. I don't really understand the "overrated" thing per the B1G...
I agree but saying the Big 10 is not sending someone to the Final Four is weak as well. If Maryland shoots like they did in the second half last night against Purdue , a good defensive team , who is going to beat them . If Iowa can play just a little better defense , who can beat them. If Purdue’s guards freshman have now been thru the wars of the nightly BIG 10 games and figure it out and Painter devises a better press breaking strategy why can’t they get there.
I watch a ton of college basketball not just BIG 10 , like most posters on this site , and I see flaws on every team , Texas, Kansas , St. Mary’s , Gonzaga , Xavier , Marquette , UConn , Kansas State , Iowa State , Baylor , Tennessee , UCLA , Arizona , Alabama , Houston. Anybody rated high or thought capable of getting to the Final Four has flaws. No great teams this year. It will take some luck like always , a crazy referee call or miss , but any of the top 30 -40 can get there.

Is that two losses in a row?

They’re obviously an NCAA lock this year, but will lose in the first round. And will be below .500 next season. They’re done.
I have checked their site as a lurker a few times since last night. Their fans are hopping mad about poor officiating, in both this game and the NU one before it. I think they feel like when they get away from "B1G referees" they will be okay...

Dc let's go dude!!

The Purdue complaining about the refs thing is hysterical to me considering that Edey is averaging 1.6 fouls per game. That's virtually impossible for any Big Ten big man, let alone the giant 7'4 one who touches the ball more than anyone.

Shimmy, sorry for my brief response yesterday to your excellent point. Everybody here (my adopted home as a Terrapin fan/ex-pat) likely knows by now that I don't talk about refereeing. But I will say this: In most cases, I think fans who whine about refereeing are wearing glasses tinted in their home team's colors. They "see" their own players assaulted on every play, while their own angels never lay a finger on anybody.

Everybody fan base has those people, but I just don't do that. You are right, though; in a perfect world, the Purdue fans would acknowledge that they benefit from some selective officiating just like everybody else, before throwing tantrums. They lost that game because they wilted under the pressure. It happens.

Go Terrapins.

And good luck to Rutgers. They have a chance today to get back on the right path...

Ha ha, Russ. There are two exceptions to my rule: 1972 Olympics, and 1980 ACC Championship...

Kenny Dennard was a character, and his explanation is pretty funny, though. Thankfully, Buck wasn't injured.

Losing by 1 or 2 was a thing for the Terps in the ACC finals. Always an "away" game in a building full of "Anybody but Maryland" fans...
