Three more bowls added

This season, 3 new bowl games will be played, bringing the total up to a record 42 games. The Ausin Bowl (played in Texas' Stadium), The Arizona Bowl (played in Tuscon in UA's stadium), and the Cure Bowl (3rd game played in the Citrus Bowl), will all feature Group of 5 match-ups this postseason. There were 5 bowl-eligible teams that were left out last year, so this should cover it.

Other bowl news: The St. Petersburg Bowl is back to being named the St. Petersburg Bowl!
The Catcus Bowl (formerly Insight Bowl) has been moved back to Chase Field (where we played it), for the next 3 years.

Awesome...more the better. I bought tickets to the cactus bowl yesterday.

So what happens if there aren't enough bowl eligible teams to fill all 84 spots?

Can the B1G trade the Bronx bowl for one of these? I know I know I know . New York exposure. Blech.

Wonder why moving to Chase Field. I was just at ASU, and I know that Sun Devil Stadium is going to be getting some work done, wonder if that's why. They removed a fair amount of seats already at SunDevil, the upper deck is noticeably smaller.

This is absurd.im a HUGE fan of the bowl system, and watch them all, but some of these G5 games, last year, had less than 10k in the stands (in great locations with good-to-great weather).

Why does the number of people in the stands matter? Everybody knows bowls are about TV. The Bahamas bowl was empty last year but game was one of the best.

Sadly that is why Pinstripe will survive.

A lot of people like to blast the Pinstripe Bowl, but in reality, it's a strong bowl that isn't going anywhere any time soon. It consistently ranks in the upper half of all bowls in attendance... and the viewer ratings are more than OK.

The Austin Bowl won't be played until 2016 and will be a tie in for the Sun Belt and AAC. This is important to the Sun Belt because Texas State, where I got my masters, has been bowl eligible and passed over the last two seasons. They have yet to play in a bowl game since becoming an FBS school.

The snow bowl with WVU was awful and the first bowl game with Kansas State half of the field was literally frozen. Some of the worse footing and traction ever at our bowl game and although not a bowl game, we did lose our starting linebacker due to the turf against Army.

Bowl games are fun, IMO!

The biggest factor for attendance is the date. Before Christmas or 12/26 are awful dates to get fans to travel at a short notice.

Agree about short travel notice. That being said, Family and I had a blast in Detroit last year.

Don't understand what people don't get about bowl SEASON. It's not about adding another week to a teams schedule. It's about college football fans having the chance to watch at least one game a day for a month. For me, it's the best month in sports and for others, it's another reason to complain about everything.

Agreed - I just don't get why people are so upset about more bowl games. I understand that most people on this board don't like college football, but it's not that hard not to flip the TV to a different channel. No one's making them watch it. On the other hand, some people (like me) really like to watch college football. So suck it!

Coaches love it because it gives them anywhere from extra weeks to over a month of practice time, depending on when their game is.

I didn't complain about the Garden St Bowl added to the Bowl Game lineup when it was formed , because felt it was started to get the RU FB team into their first bowl game.
So I won't knock any new bowl game added to today or tomorrow's bowl line up.
Just think 6-6 records might not deserve one. But would find a reason to overlook that record if Rutgers was 6-6 and went bowling

It sucks. But as long as you're aligned with the advertisers and ESPN, then cool.

Big +1. Watched more bowls than usual last year and it was great.

What else are you going to do over the holidays - visit with family members you don't really like?:eek:

What else are you going to do over the holidays ... visit family members you don't like:eek:? You can still do that, but now you have the option of ignoring them and watching football.

That's the rationale that makes no sense to me. Who cares if ESPN and advertisers make money? Does it bother you that 20,000 people travel to San Fran and spend a great deal of money in your city to watch that crap bowl? As I said above, I'm actually going to the cactus bowl this year. I was already planning on going to the Fiesta bowl and the tickets for the Cactus bowl were only another 35$ each. I'll end up staying another night in the hotel, spending a few hundred bucks on food, drinks, etc and have another great day with my wife and kids. yea, ESPN will make money but so will the guy who owns the local bar we will be hanging out at.

On the flip side, "tourist dollar" arguments are always overblown. Outside of the local bar, restaurant and hotel owners, and maybe the staff that works on tips, in the immediate vicinity of the stadium, most people couldn't care less. We're talking about San Francisco and Phoenix; a crap bowl game is pretty insignificant to the greater tourism landscape.

While I'm sure it's exaggerated the Music City bowl's website states last years game produced 33.3 million dollars in revenue. Stating 19.7 million in direct economic impact.

the math says that as we move forward there will not be enough teams over 500 so yes we will see "Exceptions" with 5-7 and maybe even 4-8 team playing
( most likely SEC teams as they deserve it because their conference is so much harder then the rest of the P5 school:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:)

I'm not debating dollar figures; I'm debating whether the average resident really gives a sh#t. Not sure what SanFran does, but unless he runs a business that caters to the stadium crowd, I don't know that the "bowl tourism dollar" argument is very compelling.

Visitors love to use such arguments for matters of self-importance or to otherwise support their points (not accusing you of the former, clearly you're in the latter here), but they don't always resonate with people that actually live there.

Pinstripe Bowl is on a Saturday after Christmas on ABC and has an agreement to take a different team every year. Stop with the complaining already.
