It pretty much derailed much of Freddie Couples career. He had to sit out several different times when he was younger from back ailments.

He could barely walk today. If you've ever had back problems, you know how painful it is. A lot of people think those alleged steroids have caught up to him in recent years. Time to bring in the miracle Doctor from Canada.

Even with so much riding on his getting back to tour quickly I still can`t believe he took such a huge chance by coming back so soon. Either his surgery was very minor or whomever advised him that he was ready to come back was very stupid.

I agree. No way he plays in the PGA ship. Not if his back problems are anything like mine, when I tweak it. Even if he does have a miracle doctor, he won't be good enough to make the cut.

I've never had the back issues he's experienced. But I have had a couple "lock-ups" before, and I couldn't imagine trying to play through them like he has. Regardless of your opinion of him, it truly sucks to see the greatest hampered by his back ailments. Maybe it's best to just shut it down for the rest of the year and start next year anew.

What? Do I not know how steroids work?

So were there steroids magically keeping his back healthy during his alleged use?

Or did the steroids magically deteriorate his back while allegedly using them, and now we are seeing the results?

Steroids = back issues so severe that surgery is required?
Huh- never knew steroid use led to degenerative back issues.

They don't. I

have no idea (surprise) what SD is talking about. His (original) back injury was obviously related to his training, mostly, and in no way related to some alleged steroid use. Complete derp by SD.

I think the ex must have clocked him one in the lower back too. He hasn't been the same since that night she played her own round of golf upside his head. Wife finds out you have 15 women on the side=golf game permanently gone to hell.

I've been saying for a while now that he needs to take a year off to get completely healthy and rework his swing into something not so violent if he ever wants to do anything significant again. He's probably too stubborn to do anything like that, which is unfortunate for him and his legacy.

He hasn't been the same since he got his head shrunk at that clinic

in Hattiesburg. I have a buddy that says they 17ed up his mojo. Needs his mojo back.

All golfers are bigger than I thought. Pinehurst was eye opening to me. They are larger men than I thought. And, god, their swings are fast.

I agree, all you have to do is simply look at swing videos from 2003 and compare to now. He's too bulked up and not smooth at all, I can only imagine the stress he puts on his spine. Since I doubt he's going to be able to regain that flexibility he once had, I personally think he needs to compact his swing. Not necessarily like Angel Cabrera, but something along those lines. That will protect his back too.

Not to mention that as far as back pain goes, there really isn't much that's worse for it than swinging a golf club. There's just not much like it that will provide the same amount of torque to a spine

Depends on where his injury is. I know it was originally disc herniation, but I haven't seen any specifics on which one(s). If it's the L5-S1, you can swing just fine. As you get higher, yes, the torque hurts you more, at least in my experience. The low discs are more load bearing than rotational. And as others have said before, his swing is so violent that if he misses, he can tweak it easily. He absolutely has to realize that he cannot play the game at the same rate he did before he started having injuries, starting with his knee.

I think it's a bigger picture thing.

The way I understand it, the anabolic **** will get you all swolt up but it's at the expense of your joints. Your joints do not get stronger or healthier in proportion to how much stronger your muscles are. So, if I'm a skinny ***** and take a bunch of roids and turn into Barry Bonds, suddenly I can lift heavy stuff but my joints are still that of a skinny *****. Hence the joint injuries like those in the back.

I think the non-anabolic **** is used for helping injuries recover faster. I'm not a doctor but this is my 1st grade level knowledge of roids.

Whatever the case, when you start having back problems that are related to joints and discs, you're f'ed. I speak from experience. You just don't ever go back to the way you were before.
