Tim Shramek > Bobby Hall

Only in his second year as HC, Shramek's Germantown team is progressing while Hall's MC team appears stagnate or regressing. Shramek's team seems more disciplined, exhibits sound fundamentals in assignments and tackling, and also seems better conditioned.

Without QB Schwartz and WR Keith Williams, MC would be 0-6. Special teams continues to be a weakness (something Hall admitted during a recent booster club meeting). Hall touted this season would display a smaller roster, but more athletic and "really, really, fast". This year includes a Jr class which has dominated their opponents in every game during their 8th, 9th, and JV seasons. However, that has not translated to the field. Remember, those 8th, 9th, and JV players from other schools the MC Jr's crushed are the Jr's on the teams they face now. The offense is clearly carrying the team lead by Schwartz and Williams. The defense tackling is very weak and does not appear to be on track to get better. With tackling on defense and special teams a glaring weakness, the defense spends a grand total of 15 minutes on tackling drills during weekly practice. That's not per day, that's cumulative for the week. Defense is such a weakness, that after the West Monroe beat down, Hall, who is usually hands off on the defense, spent two days working with the defense at practice. Injuries, a sign of poor conditioning, are also staring to take a toll. But because there is not depth being developed, players are being shifted to other positions with some moving from offense to defense and vice versa. Weekly practices consist mostly of walk-throughs in preparation for Friday night with about 75 players standing on the sidelines watching or acting a blocking dummies.

The primary cause appears to be the loss of Mangum as the DC and the addition of the new DC and LB coach. This will be a down year and worse next season as there is virtually no talent coming up through the ranks. Last week, the 8th grade team, coached by the new LB coach, was thumped by Clinton by four touchdowns. Clinton scored on virtually every possession. The 9th grade team was also thumped by Clinton. The JV team is playing great, but it consists of mostly Jr's as there are not enough 10th graders to field a team.

Contrast that with Shramek whose roster consists primarily of players discarded by MC. QB Shell is growing in his position, the backs run downhill behind their pads, the defense can tackle in space, and their practices are more physical. The GHS coaches are also building depth as there is very little standing around just watching. Player attitude is different as well. GHS players are playing with confidence and pride while MC players, at times seem less than enthusiastic.

MC will probably win their region, but benefit primarily because it is usually weak. GHS however, is being talked about in the media as the favorite to win their region in only Shramek's second season.

This may seem like I'm just trashing a program. That's not the case at all. At MC, the expectations are high and with the facilities, money, boosters, players, this team should be clicking on all cylinders and it is not. Don't take my word for it, practices are open at both MC and GHS. Go watch each and draw your own conclusions.

How old are you and/or do you have a kid on either team?

If 1982 is any indication, you are 30 and shouldn't care this much.

When he was at Clinton, my brother referred to him as "coach serial killer" because of his goatee. I didn't read the full post, so that's all I can say.

Germantown is playing much better and has a chance to be a pretty good program

every year in a couple of more years. Shell has gotten a lot better and that has helped and I agree the backs do well with the dive play, they run hard. I disagree on the tackling, if they could tackle they would really have a shot a doing well because they can score but they can't tackle worth a ****. The problem is really the fact that their lines are way undersized and are not very athletic but they do play hard. Shramek has done a nice job but should have lost the game against Mendenhall with that option call late in the game on fourth down where we pitched and did not make it. Mendenhall bailed him out by promptly fumbling it back and allowing the Germantown victory. Mendenhall has a couple of D1 prospects, the QB Hodge is a good player as well as the Junior receiver Craft or Kraft, he looks great. Madison Central is not very good, that is all.

ps: Germantown has a couple of young players that may play in college, Taury Dixon is a freshmen db and the white boy reciever/DB Reid Kelly is a sophmore and a very good athlete.

The problem with Germantown is going to be their growth.

They will probably make the playoffs out of 4A-6 this year. That division is weak, they could challenge for the region title. But next year they will be 5A and if the rumors are correct, realignment will put them in a district with Ridgeland and Pearl.

In two more years, or at the most 4, they will be a 6A team and it will take them a few years to get used to that. See: Terry. Got real comfortable in 4A (when there were 5 classes) and growth jumped them to 5A/6A where they have struggled for a few years. This is the first year that they have seemed competitive and they aren't a playoff team.

Yep, those are great points. They will struggle at those higher levels

especially the line play unless it gets a lot better. Tim really needs to work
on developing his linemen. I think there will always be plenty of skill players from our
area but you got to have the big boys to win, especially at 5A and 6A.

The real problem is the administration at MC

They buy Bobby Hall's BS about district titles and how he built the Jungle Tron and put turf in and they don't see the major cracks in the foundation. And why they continue to allow him to embarrass the school with his tired act is beyond me. Oh yeah- and attendance is abysmal.

I think Clinton has a good coach now- they'll catch up before too long, and Northwest Rankin is a young team this year that has had some awful luck off the field otherwise they would be the favorite to win this district. Murrah has the best player in the league and he is only a sophomore. They came darn close to beating MC the other night.

MC's defense looks like they hired Tyrone Nix.

MC's administration needs to do something before the bottom falls out.

I could win a lot of district titles at Madison Central in that district. And I've never coached a down of football in my life. It's embarrassing how bad 2-6A is historically, and this year it's even way down from usual.

I would take you as a coach over Bobby Hall

That district certainly could be better. Every team in that district underachieves except for maybe Murrah.

MC has a has been as a coach that is a joke. Dead horse.

Clinton certainly could/should be better. They had Cedric Giles and they have a guy named Herbert Harris that is a D-I prospect. They have produced a lot of talent over the years, but they have a major inferiority complex with Madison.

Northwest Rankin has a lot of potential. And like I said they will get better. They need a new stadium badly.

Warren Central should be a LOT better. They're probably the biggest underachievers in the district. They might need a new coach- I like Josh Morgan, but there was a lot of friction over there over his hire over Brian Oakes.

Murrah benefits a lot from Fondren and being in a slightly better area than most of the other JPS schools. They may replace Provine as the JPS football power. They have a couple of good prospects and possibly the top sophomore in the state.

Vicksburg should be better.

Jim Hill= Hopeless.

Greenville- Weston = Even less hope than Jim Hill. If someone goes 3-8 there, they probably would be a candidate for coach of the year.
