Time for the Student Body to Respond

I have been saying this for a long time. Not on this board, but to everyone I meet. Article written on ESPN today pretty much trashes the entire SEC for being one of the worst BCS basketball conferences. It talks about how almost none of the schools even care that they play basketball, and that we underachieve every year with the talent in the conference. I think that its time that our student body actually started acting like a student body. You see schools on TV, even in the Saint Mary's vs. Gonzaga game last night, and from the looks of it they enjoy basketball WAY more than we do. Its time for the enitre student body to come together and act like a fan base. Alot of students come to the game and act like its a sunday afternoon tea party. They may stand or sit, but most of the time never yell. Probably wearing a blue shirt or some other color shirt that doesnt represent Mississippi State. Every other major conference has a student body that gets into the game and participates on every play. We may not have the tradition of other schools, but we could at least act like a student body and wear colors that represent Mississippi State, and actually cheer the entire game. If your going to sit in the student section and actually sit in your chair for most of the game, go to the upper deck and let someone else who wants to participate have your seat. Its time that we actually started getting into basketball games because I really do think that students and fans like that effect the outcome of games. I think its time the step up and act like students and try and build a new tradition at this university.

I think those students at other school look like asses acting the way they do. Who in their right minds jumps up and down for 40 minutes? No one in their right minds. Their probem is the fact that they don't get to see great football games and teams. Even if our football team sucks *** we still get to watch other great teams right there in Strakville. One other thing, it is basketball! Thats just a little better then womens softball and tiddle winks.

watch an ACC game, then an SEC game. The differences are huge. The ACC is simply more exciting and fun to watch.

The SEC is a football conference. At Duke, Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Maryland, they care more about basketball than football. They talk more about basketball recruiting than football recruiting. They talk about basketball during the summer instead of football. They look forward to it more, so they put more effort into it, and the fans naturally get more excited about it. Kentucky is really the only school in the SEC that compares in terms of enthusiasm for basketball.

And of course I think that plays a role in whether or not you can attract the best players and therefore have the best product on the floor. Basketball just isn't a priority in the SEC like it is in the ACC or the Big East. A lot of the Big East schools and a lot of the mid-major schools either don't have football teams, or their football teams play in a lower division, so basketball is THE sport on campus. That makes a huge difference

In my opinion, if ESPN wants to take a shot at SEC basketball, I really don't care. And the reason is, it's a secondary sport to the SEC. As long as we're supreme in football, that's all that matters.

So I am an idiot because I don't hold basketball in high regards? Or is it because I don't agree with you? I attend many basketball games at State. Not because I like the sport but because I am an alumni and I try to support the school when I can. I much rather watch football or Baseball. Basketball is not high on my list and I did use some extreme comaprison to make my point but that don't make me a idiot. However your post could make you a prick. </p>

Well you're obviously not an English professor.

You might be like Falkner and just refuse to use punctuation?
