To everyone who hasn't been to Omaha, you need to go..

It's one of the coolest experiences you can have following college athletics. Walking around downtown and the other areas between there and the stadium is an absolute blast. Talking with fans of other schools... Cruising through the endless memorabilia vendors (or.. T-shirt World as my kids call it). Everybody is in a fantastic mood. It's not the dregs of the fanbases like going to a football game in Baton Rouge or something. It's an absolute stellar time.

And you can do it as swag or cheap as you want. Rooms across the river in Council Bluffs, IA are reasonable... even at the casinas. Outfield tickets can be had for $25-$50/game. The drive up there is long, but part of the adventure is meeting all the other Dawg fans along interstates 70 and 29. The downtown area of Omaha is typical midwest... extremely clean, extremely safe and easy to navigate.

Google the ticketing process for each game. It's unique and can feel complicated until you understand it. The line MSU fans formed prior to the first championship game in 2013 was unreal.

On days off... the zoo is maybe the best in the country.. I know.. a zoo... but it really is cool. Or drive 30 min out to Ashland, NE to the Aerospace Museum. It's really incredible. In 2013 between the regular series and championship we almost drove all the way up to Mt. Rushmore. Wish we had now...

But I'd definitely recommend going for opening weekend. The mood when all 8 teams are there is what makes the experience.

In short.. just go.

No LSU is a plus as well. Along with us they are the best traveling draw. Their absence should help drive some prices down a bit. Whoever wins Arkansas/USCe will bring a large group and Texas might as well. The two west coast schools on our side and North Carolina will travel about like UCLA did.

Texas and Arkansas will bring big numbers if they win today.. but they're on the other side of the bracket. Won't affect us for the first 3 games. *

In terms of fan support at the games, we should have a huge advantage over all 3 of the teams in our bracket.

I'll be rooting against both Texas and Arkansas. When they get together, Arkansas' little brother attitude is unbearable from the SWC days.

I have been 4 times, and it is THE ultimate MSU baseball experience! Hands down, the event to attend. They look at State fans like we look at State fans. The other fans are looking for the crowds of Maroon clad folks, the passion for our team, and all of the cowbells we can haul up there! Get off your *** and go to O.....you won't regret it

Absolutely. Omaha is an incredible town. Whoever said "clean" is an understatement. You forget how much money is in that town i.e. Warren Buffet and insurance companies. They like niceties. The environment outside the park is a blast.

Information:

Council Bluffs has a huge amount of Interstate Road Construction. You may even find a place all the way to Lincoln if hotels get full in Omaha.

Definitely. And don't say, "If we win a game or two, I'll go". Being there the first weekend when all 8 teams are there is a great atmosphere.

The best way I can describe it is “It’s the most American thing you can do all summer.” Kids with gloves on, everyone happy to be there, super clean city, and playing a great American sport. They should hand out slices of apple pie and American flags as you enter the city. It’s a fantastic road trip as well.

On the outfield tickets thing, I think $25-$50 game might even be overshooting it. Pretty sure we got in for $15-$20 per game in 2013, and that was the national title series.

I have this on my bucket list. The only reason we are not going is the wife is having a procedure on Thursday and will be in the hospital 1-2 nights, otherwise, we would be running up I 35 Thursday.

Y'all raise some hell for me. I'll be there when we go back next year.

Just booked our trip. My dad has Alzheimer’s so I’m taking him as kind of our last memories together. Going to be really emotional. He played on the baseball team his freshman year before transferring to that other school. Can’t wait to see the look on his face when I surprise him to pick him up this week.

Question on gen admission: do they really sell out? It says they have 5500 tickets but it doesn't guarantee admission. Has anyone had real problems getting in?

I attended the second largest attended game at TD Ameritrade with a GA ticket and it was quite easy to get without much hoopla. It seats 24,000 +. You will get in.

they do sell out, but if you are reasonably interested in getting a ticket, it's not that difficult

Another thing that's fun is to go watch the team at Creighton..

..the teams use their field for practice. I'm always amazed how many people have never actually watched a team take infield in practice. It's pretty easy to find out when they'll be there and the schedule is strict so there's no waiting around.

And you can stand close enough to the bullpen to hear the seams on 90+ mph fastballs whiz past your head.

You literally can walk from there to TD Ameritrade in less than 10 minutes:

Awesome. Love how they ripped that Ole Miss hat off :)
I should have told mom to have his state hat on. He played baseball and basketball freshman year at state then transferred to ole miss after that year for pharmacy school. So he claims both schools. We’re looking forward to this trip. He’s been smiling ever since I walked through the door.

For those that have been before, do they have team posters and such for the autograph sessions? Or, do I need to carry whatever i want signed?

Man, good for you. I hope it's a great trip for all involved.

I lost my dad in 2015 and I am still reeling from it. I wish I had been able to so something like this before he went. We just kinda take for granted sometimes that they're always going to be around.

I don't know about autographs. But there's a Lids store behind right field (same building as the Blatt, I think). They can put a CWS or Omaha patch or embroidery on your MSU hat. You can bring your own, or they'll have some MSU hats for sale there too. Last time, I think the CWS patch could only be put on a Top of the World hat, but they would do the Omaha stitching on any hat you have. Makes a nice souvenir.
