Aren't betting and gambling the same things?

You think the buffets and shows pay the bills at the casino? Just stop, I get it, you want him fired.

No. I think that people giving the casino their money at the tables and machines are the revenue streams for casinos.

Ok, I now know that you are a Mullenite. I'll stop after you read this.

"Linemakers," says former BoDog chief Rob Gillespie, "are divided into two groups, oddsmakers and bookmakers".

Oddsmakers deal in a theoretical world because they don't actually take bets on the lines that they publish. Oddsmakers make their money by selling their lines to media outlets, sportsbooks, etc. These are the lines you see in your local newspaper or hear on the radio. The line from Las Vegas Sports Consultants is a good example of one of these.

On the other hand, bookmakers deal very much in the real world, as they take bets on the lines they publish. These lines then move as a result of wagering, because the books seek to balance action in an effort to minimize risk and maximize the vig collected. This fundamental difference is one of the main reasons that the lines you see in your newspaper are not the same lines you get when you deal with a sportsbook.

The reason I am mad is because Mullen has been here 5 years, gets paid $2.6 million per year and his teams are not competitive against any top 20 teams. I get madder when I see what Huge Freeze is doing in year 2 and Gus Malzahan is doing in year 1. I get mad when we are not as good a team in November as we were in August. I get mad when I see that our football commitments for the upcoming signing class are ranked 12th in a 14 team conference. I get mad when MSU fans are so complacent that their definition of a successful season is when we don't finish last in the conference.

His pay is 11th in the conference. That's probably about right on with the results. What Ole Miss is doing is frustrating, but Auburn? They won a national title two years ago. They'll always be better than us long term.

We keep talking about how much money we are spending on coach's salaries and facilities. We are the salesman who is trying to live in the same neighborhood as the heart surgeons and hedge fund managers. We might drive a BMW, but we can barely afford to fill it up. And when that SEC network money comes in, it's not like we are the only ones getting it. We won't make up any ground with it.

We aren't 11th. We are last. Dead 17ing last. We never play anyone tough. We lay down. 11th would be an improvement. 11th would indicate we could give 9th or 10th a good game. 17 this staff.

Just out of curiosity, if we are dead last, where is Kentucky? I'll hang up and listen.

Talk to me in 2 years and lets see where they are. They are out recruiting us already. I would trade Mullen for Stoops in a heart beat. Their issue is talent. They are moving past us there. Hell, we are a fabulous open field tackle by Market from having lost to them at home.

2012: UK lost to UGA by 5
2013: UK lost to South Carolina by 7, Louisville by 14

When was the last time we fought a good team like that? I'll tell you two thousand and 17ign eleven. We don't fight. We lay down. Period.

And somehow we beat those same Kentucky teams. Boggles the mind. The question Georgia and South Carolina fans should be asking is why they are paying so much for a coach who can barely beat a terrible Kentucky team.

I agree I would like to see us play a close game against highly ranked team but the Kentucky example is not very good.

Yes but the thought still stands. Don't use an example to show how much better they are becoming because they played Georgia and South Carolina close yet it's a negative for us to win close.

I like Hudspeth. If its not Mullen, I want Hudspeth. But lack of stability and quick trigger is not a recipe for success at MSU.

By all means, please let us know what the "recipe for success" is at MSU... I'd love to hear it.

No, my point was that a lot of people calling for mullen's head want it done this year because they know we will probably win a bunch of games next year no matter who is coach, so they will appear right. I am neutral.

Incorrect.

People are calling for Mullen's head this year -- because it would take an absolute total meltdown to not get 6 next year -- at which point he's basically guaranteed a job for another year in spite of an 8-9 win schedule.

2(current) underperformances in a row is enough to for most people...

Finish 5-7, what's realistic expectations for next year? Realistic to call UK a win on the road? NO. If not them, then who? What you've got is 4 losses -- and 4 toss-up games(at best)...

What do oddsmakers vs linemakers have to do with the fact that you said you forgot people, as in customers of the casinos, don't only go there to bet because they also gamble?

The same KY team that Mullen is undefeated against?

He was undefeated against Ole Miss in 2011 too.

A re-energized program with a big talent infusion spells trouble, especially on the road. We were LUCKY to beat them at home this year.

I get that but calling for our demise against a team we have dominated under Mullen is a little defeatist, even for a State fan.

Who "called for our demise"?

I'm simply being realistic. Thinking UK is a guaranteed win is ridiculous at this point. Just as ridiculous as calling Arkansas an automatic loss because it's in Little Rock.

When did we "dominate" them under Mullen? The 13 point victory where they fired their coach? Otherwise, we could have easily lost several of these games. It's been a competitive series -- and we've ALWAYS out recruited them. Till now.

This pretty well expresses my exact sentiments, also, and I venture to say, many Mississippi State fans as well.
