but I don't really think so.

Bender was planning on going to school up until his Michael Jordan record breaking all-american game.

From what I understand, Outlaw didn't have much of a choice because he didn't have the grades.

Ellis was another that said he was coming to school all the way up until he was "guaranteed" a first round selection. I also remember UNC being after him pretty hard before he signed with State.

Hopson, I really have no idea what happened. He's one of about two players that I can even remember in 10 years that committed to Stansbury and then went elsewhere.

...is that the essence of your argument is: "I wish our basketball team was more like Ole Miss's basketball team."

That's wrong on so many levels, I couldn't begin to break it down without being forced to write a Rebel Bruiser-type novel on the subject.

....so that you don't have to take my word for it. 11-5 in the SEC isn't going to mean much to the committee. There's too many other negative factors. We have an RPI in the mid 80s. It's not going to improve enough to matter. There are several teams on the bubble with better resumes that will get consideration before us...even if we won our last four. I mean, the name "Mississippi State" might come up in the committee meeting, but there will be no serious consideration.

Oh, by the way, you're inflating our record, too. Our current record is 17-10, but for the benefit of the selection committee, it's 16-10. If we win our last four, that's 20 wins with an RPI in the high 60s at best. The fact is that everyone is so quick to defend Stans, tout his accomplishments, and talk about how nobody expected this team to be in the tournament anyway, but if you look back, there's no reason this team shouldn't be in the tournament. Those inexcusable losses to Charlotte, San Diego, WSU, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, and Alabama are what cost us.

I say aGAIN, winning the SEC tournament is the only chance this team has of getting in the dance...even if we win our last four regular season games and the first two games in the tournament.

Then he got one McD's all-american player to "actually get into an MSU uniform" which is exactly one more than any other MSU coach.

Sure, ill agree with this. Its something that should is great to see.
1 McD AA in 11 seasons(soon to be 12) has come to MSU. That is clearly better than 0, but hardly recruiting guruesque.

The talent and production of the players that have actually played has been above average, but nowhere near great.

JR Smith signed with UNC before opting for the draft, Andrew Bynum signed with UConn, Shaun Livingston signed with Duke and other guys were committed to big programs before opting for the draft

football coaches credit for signing guys who never qualified.

It doesn't count for **** if they never put on a uniform.

the ability to get someone to suit up for you. Recruiting is convincing someone to sign with your school. Recruiting equals selling---not making sure you get paid on the sale. Now granted, great recruiting does you no good if you can't get anyone to actually play for you.

Stans (or most people would tell you, Kirby and Cunningham) can recruit and the fact that he got some of those names to sign with us shows that.

these guys did not do that. It's part of the game. Sure, UNC may offer a scholly, and somewhat recruit these guys. But they damn sure have a backup plan, and they do not put as much effort into most of the one and done guys as they do to their other recruits.

Recruiting is about getting players who help you win. Not getting players who look good on signing day, a la Ed Orgeron.

AMEN! Regardless of what the expectations were to begin the season, the fact remains that this team could be in position to get in the NCAAs if....IF...they take of business vs. the teams you mention. Stans needs to schedule about 5 more exhibitions to start the season so he can figure things out. Every year it seems we have bad early season losses.

I think recruiting is the selling part. You think its the whole thing.

But you make a good point, Im glad we don't have Ed Orgeron's recruiting classes. That would be awful.

than if you're a MSU or UM. If we can get in on one true All-American a year, we're doing pretty damn good. A UNC or a UK can be in on 3 or 4 of them every year.
