Jene has a few baseball updates since school has started and he was talking about John Marc Shelly exhibiting excellent arm strength. Jene said that someone (I assume a scout maybe) described Shelly's arm as being "phenomenal". Maybe someone can straighten me out, but I was under the impression that Shelly was an upper 80's type of pitcher. Good arm, but nothing out of the ordinary. The impression that I got from Jene has me invisioning 92/93 (maybe wishful thinking) type velocity.

More like high 80's low 90's. I want to say that he topped out at 93 in high school. The Astros had scouts that were talking to him, but he was going to MSU no matter what.

Shelly is legit- but I think he is more of a relief type pitcher. I think he could make an immediate impact though- of course with Holder, we have our closer, but Shelly could be one of our top set-up guys. He'll be a 1-2 inning type pitcher next year and could possibly close if Holder needs a day off or something.
