Good for Houston! That city has produced more NFL athletes than any city in America. They can easily become The New Miami and don't need overrated 5 star Longhorn commits to do it.

I'm sure there are a few schools that will pay him more......we're not one of them though. Not like we didn't know all of this already anyway.

I'm not sure how anyone thinks he'd sign a new contract and then leave this off season.

And he is off our table because he's off everyone's table.

The article said Houston offered him a new contract and nothing about him accepting the contract. He'll wait for the other offers to come in at $5 million

That's what I was thinking. It's one sided as of now and I'd like to know what the new buyout number would be if any. I don't know if he'll get 5M but close to 4 is possible. McElwain got about 3.5-3.75M I think.

Anything more than that is crazy. I like the guy and have for some time before others jumped on the bandwagon BUT it's only 1 year and you still can't know what he'll do when he takes the step up. Coaching salaries are getting absolutely crazy these days.

All this means is that another school has to pay $3.5M, $4M or more. USCe is currently paying Spurrier $4M so I'm sure they'll have no problem outpaying Houston. Other schools like USC, Mizzou & VT probably wouldn't have a problem either. We know we won't pay & he's off our table, but that's because our BOGs has never invested in or cared about winning.

Worst year ever to be looking. The season hasn't even ended and the jockeying has begun.

I wish I was a coach in demand right now. The market is about to sky rocket.

Get your checkbooks out people.

Truly depressing when you know that Houston's AAC TV share is only $2M/year and they can somehow find the salary for a good coach, but we can't at nearly 5X that amount (and growing).

Houston also fired their previous coach despite a winning record but 7-5 is not where they wanted to be; you have to give them credit for aspiring to greatness, wish the hierarchy at RU felt that way.

While we can't offer Herman what Houston has or others undoubtedly will, at least we can tout the higher tax rates he'd have to pay in NJ as compared to TX. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Rutgers wouldn't even be close to what he was offered to stay at Houston. Don't know why some people think we were ever in the mix and missed out on something.

I think most who pay attention realize that Herman/Fuente are unrealistic options. I'm just kind of interested to see where his salary ends up when a landing spot is finally chosen. As much as I like him and as good as he's been this season, it's one year and guys like Malzahn, Strong, Sumlin including others many of whom I think are solid to good coaches get crazy raises off short term results. There's only so far you should go and all these guys can't be winners deserving of their salaries. If he eventually ends up getting anything over 4M, i'ts like man these ADs just keep pushing the envelope. To think there's actually talk of Miles being under pressure with 15M still left on his contract and 2M for assistants.

I don't think many posters had us in the mix for either Herman on Fuente.

Houston just gave him a big raise. He will be making $3 million a year.
Tom Herman was off the table before the season began. Whatever Houston is paying him isnt the issue. Its that someone else was always going to pay more than we could, and if not, the guy could wait it out a year or two until someone would.

We dont like in a vacuum. Even in a low hiring year there are 4-5 P5 jobs opening, and RU is in the bottom third of them. Its why the old - we should just pay whatever it would take to get Saban wouldnt work - because smosone else with more money and success would pay more.

off the table for us, no way Rutgers and the donors would pay over 3 million for someone who has only been a HC for a single season.

In case that wasn't clear. I don't care of he is still on the table for other schools.

Try to picture JH in a meeting with donors and Barchi when she tells them that Houston just increased Tom Herman's pay to 3 million. I know I'm a lone wolf on this one but I believe all roads lead to Edsall or Rhule.

I hope that he stays at Houston and turns them into a Legendary Powerhouse. Then goes Independent and puts together a Humungous schedule.Beats the hell out of all of them and gets invited into a Power 5 Conf. Football History in the making.

I don't think we're hiring Herman either.

But when will some of you guys realize that coaching extensions and coaching contracts are 100% meaningless? If a coach wants to move, he'll move. Contract be damned.

Read a rumor that one incentive is if they get a P5 invite while he is coach he gets a 5 mil bonus. Also will get a 1 mil bonus for making it to a NY6 bowl, which could very well happen this year.
