An early, early breakdown of the BCS matchups from The Big Lead
Florida/Alabama (SEC champ) vs. Texas (Big 12 champ) - 100% sure it'll involve two of these three teams.
Oregon (Pac-10 champ) vs. Iowa (Big 10 champ) - Practically written in stone.
Notre Dame (at-large) vs. Penn State (at-large) - BCS would be so lucky to get a matchup like this. Boffo ratings.
Alabama/Florida (at-large) vs. Georgia Tech (ACC Champ) - Mighty Tide/Gators defense against the always-fun triple-option.
Cincinnati (Big East champ) vs. Boise State (unbeaten, Top 8 BCS) - Least scintillating bowl matchup of unbeaten teams … ever?
So here's my question. After reading a few articles bemoaning the unfamiliar teams in the BCS mix this year, why do you see a lot more rooting against the underdog in college football than you do in college basketball? Is the ad-watching dollar of the moderately interested midwestern frontrunner really that much greater than the dolt who would watch ANY football game and might think the potential scoreboard-scorching Cincy vs. Boise matchup would be a better game? I don't remember people ranting a few years ago about "George Mason? Gonzaga? Where's Duke? You call this basketball?" So why when faced with some new blood in the mix are people suddenly all "Boise? Yuck. Grantland Rice never wrote about blue turf, dammit!"

"A special case is made for independent Notre Dame, which receives an automatic berth if it finishes in the top eight."

if notre dame wins out they'll be in good shape. i think there's a good chance they lose, though
