Just to name a few has beens . . .
In SO English class when JFK went down. Dad thought the **** was going to hit the fan - war with USSR & all. Two days later he & I were watching live as Ruby was shot. Dad hollered, "They shot him!". Mom came running in from kitchen - one B&W TV days - crying, thinking he meant new Prez Johnson. Quite the moment in history. Wasn't alive when Abe took it.

C'mon fellas, you really gonna put Bias and Elvis on your Mount Rushmore? How many countries did they conquer? How many dead people did they bring back to life?
Elvis is NOT DEAD...he just went home...

Surprised no one mentioned Dale Earnhardt
He died and NASCAR began a slow death
His death impacted his sport more than anybody’s impacted their sport

Not as important as many histrionic people
No order
JFK
Lincoln
Alexander the Great
Many others

I think I’d have to put Ayrton Senna above Earnhardt in terms of impact.

Prior to his death, Formula 1 averaged a little over one driver fatality per year. In the 25 years since Senna’s death, there’s been only 1 fatality.

That’s solely because of the impact of Senna’s death. It was his death that spurred Formula 1 to get serious about safety and the majority of technological advancements that have made all forms of motor racing safer have largely been as a result of Formula 1’s research and approach.

And that’s not even considering his cultural impact. A little over 3 million people lined the streets for his funeral, which if I remember correctly, is the largest gathering of mourners in modern history.

Senna was arguably the greatest racing driver who ever lived, a fierce competitor on the track and a kind and generous person off the track. In terms of being tragic and untimely, Senna’s death was certainly both.

Randy Rhoades

Brilliant guitarist who could play any style. Killed at 25 in a plane crash that never should’ve happened.
