on what the future holds for the yellow and black polyester attack.

Given the ****** conference affiliation, their terrible financial situation, their dwindling fan support and interest, what are they going to do? Man, it would be great if they continued to slide into bolivia so recruiting is easier.

Petrino has too much baggage.

I'd go consult Mike Leach and Hal Mumme. Those guys have worked with lot of successful people. They have employed a lot of successful people. They might know a guy worth of proving himself at a fixer-upper.

Great opportunity for anyone. You can win, plus they have no expectations. Pray they don't get Petrino. It is most definitely in our best interest that they stay down forever.

Their future doesn't look good. UAB, Troy, LA Tech and now South Alabama have really cut into their traditional recruiting grounds over the last 10-15 years. They'll probably be able to get back to winning seasons in their crap league, but they really have only been relevent one season since Brett Favre finished his eligibility. And that's not going to change much no matter who their coach is.

If I were them, I'd join the Sun Belt

Their heyday was around 1980 when they were able to amass enough talent to beat us and Ole Miss and get their prop 48's. Things have changed.

They used to make their living recruiting the Gulf Coast and finding diamonds in the rough like the guy we're getting from Houston- Chris Jones. Now you have Hud at Louisiana-Lafayette, South Alabama is playing football now, Troy is I-A, and you have programs such as Central Florida and South Florida all taking their talent pool not to mention programs like UAB. The internet recruiting culture and technology has made those diamonds in the rough from Chalk, Ms known to everyone and they are getting found by SEC schools. Our renewed focus of recruiting Mississippi has hurt them a lot too.

Then to top it all off, they go all out after Anthony Alford who is a toxic player and he ends basically being forced to play QB because of promises made to him even though he isn't ready.

It has all kind of come to a head this year after they lost Austin Davis- a really good diamond in the rough.

I don't know how you fix it- a lot of their fans and alumni go to Starkville or Oxford and support one of the in-state SEC schools on the weekend rather than their alma mater and some support both which is not all that good for USM. I can't see them being attractive to a BCS conference and the one that they really want to join - the Big East could die out.

If I was a football coach, I'd try to focus on the local area, Jackson, the Gulf Coast, and the Mississippi Delta as well as Mobile and New Orleans. They're going to have to be a developmental program even moreso than us.

They won 12 just last year. They may have more competition from South AL and UAB, but an up and comer fireball should get them winning again. Hopefully not in time for our game.

Their 12 wins last year are about as impressive as our 8 this year

It was a result of schedule and nothing more. they beat 11 patsies and one mediocre team in Houston (who also had a great record based solely on schedule). I guess Virgina could be considered decent too. Their 117th ranked schedule inflated their record. Other than last year's padded record, their last 10 years have been littered with 7 and 8 win seasons. Considering they get the likes of Memphis, Tulane, UAB, Rice, etc. every year....that's not very impressive.

And that is why it shouldn't be that hard for them to get back to winning.
