Obviously there's some desperation in the sense that ticket sales are way down, but what have you really lost by giving away $50 in concessions? 5 each of hot dogs, cokes and candy bars?

both schools have sold 32k non-student season tickets. I don't think our student tickets are on sale yet.

We'll probably end up with decent average attendance, I'm sure the Texas and A&M games will be totally full, as will Auburn. Three of our home games pretty much suck though, so I understand not buying tickets this year. Oh, and the team sucking thing won't help much either.

We have given them hell about lacking effort in new marketing initiatives and following our lead. This isn't one of those times. The concessions are so overpriced that they won't lose much from a cost standpoint by doing this.

I just wish they named them after the Black Bears.

I think it is good marketing for their circumstance. This sort of thing wouldn't make sense for us right now because we are having no trouble selling tickets. However, didn't we give out gifts to the "Sky Dawgs" a few years back? If so, that is a similar situation where you offering added value to the ticket. Is it desperation, in a sense, yes, but definitely smart in you are in their situation.

Obviously I don't like seeing OM commercials considering where I am posting this message and since I like camo so much, but objectively it has increased in quality substantially.

We sold out. You are 5,000 behind last year.

and the commercials and videos we produce don't make me cringe any more

I do envy the videos and commercials. They are awesome. The Season is easily the best weekly school highlight show I have ever seen.

I remember we don't sell every seat as season tickets either, why is that? I know visitors get some, but there's always still a delta, and I don't know why.

Reminds me of a game I went to at UAB with State. Hotdog and coke came with the ticket.

We've sold 32k season tickets, down from 35k sold at this time last year.

You've sold 32k season tickets and are sold out.

We would have to sell 6k more tickets to sell out.

If we were holding 11k for students like you guys are, we'd only need to sell 2k more tickets to sell out. Either way, we've both sold around 32k tickets this year.

As to OP4's question about the difference...some of it is visitor tickets, but evidently both schools hold back some tickets for individual ticket sales. You also have to considered that some tickets are held for employees, recruits, other visitors, etc.

If our capacity is 60,850, we evidently keep around 8,850 for visitors and individual tickets sales. If your capacity is 55,082, then evidently you hold back 12,082 tickets for visitors and individual tickets sales.

It's not going to sell a meaningful amount of additional tickets and it damages their brand.

They've already try to sell the appeal of the Grove and the beautiful award winning campus.

Much smarter ways to do these ticket sales promotions

although I have a sneaky suspicion our attendance will be on the rise there as well.<div>
</div><div>MSU has obliterated Ole Miss is attendance in the recent past. Now we're expanding our stadium since it's needed. You're expanding yours because, well, I don't know. Scratch that, we all know exactly why you're expanding your stadium.</div>

It just seems like a promotion.

Companies do promotions all the time, both successful and struggling companies.

****, Groupon/living social/deal chicken etc etc put up offers all over the country every day from companies that are doing quite well.

It's desperate because it's ridiculous to have to give anything more than a game ticket to sell them, but it's good marketing because it makes the best of a bad situation by not giving up as much as it seems like due to overpriced concessions. <div>

Would you like to point out the "smack" in my post? I only posted the facts.

You've "obliterated our attendance in the recent past"? Now that's smack, but I'll respond by asking you in what recent year have you had better attendance than Ole Miss?

http://espn.go.com/blog/s...t-sec-attendence-in-2011

Even in our two worst years in history and two of your better years in history (2010/2011), we've sold more tickets than you. Now you can think that's smack all you'd like, but its really just someone correcting you, as these are facts.

In your effort to gain some sixpack cred, you made a ridiculous comment. If you were going to attempt smack, you should have taken FlabLoser's silly route of mentioning % full.
