Tough Life Decision

So I've got to make my choice finally. Currently I'm 34, devilishly handsome, live in Key West and bartend and work on a boat(Tuesdays) Monday through Friday, no nights or weekends (took a while to get that but I love it). I can take off as much time, any time I want throughout the year. I only work about 6 hours a day at most and make very good money.

Well, the gal is ready to get off the island and move back to the real world (Tampa) which means I have to give all that up, go back to nursing working likely nights and weekends for a while (3 days/week which isn't bad), take a paycut and have to request off for vacation and hope I get it, etc. Obviously the benefits of better health insurance, retirement, etc are there too. Also being closer to family is nice, as well as having normal things like Apple/Sprint stores, chik-fil-a, BW's, sporting events, normal people, contractors that come when they're scheduled, a cable company that doesn't take 3 weeks to fix a simple cable box, plane tickets that don't start at $500 no matter where you are going, etc.

So the question is, do I stay and tell her goodbye or leave with her and give a "normal" life a shot?

P.S. Being a ginger murse in KW and all, the option of drowning in a bag of dicks, or being impaled by a dick tower or hanging myself from a noose of cocks are not options I'm willing to do, so you can save those for another thread although I know you won't.

P.S.S. No I will not post pics of the gal. Just know she's better looking than 93% of your significant others and has a better body than 99%.

I mean you're 34, you probably have a good idea about whether you love her and think she's the "one" and worth moving for. If not, then don't. If she's the one and you want to marry her, then I think its worth the move personally.

In working with couples, I like to take an approach that if each seeks to serve the interests of the other, both will have their needs met. I wonder....is she considering your desire to stay where you are? If not, what does that say to you about her view of the relationship?

Is there a potential compromise?

Yeah it's stupid. I make in 6 hours what I make in 12 nursing. Doesn't make sense but that's the truth.

Yes she knows this, she's just ready to go before I am necessarily. She's been down here two years longer than me. We both agree this isn't exactly the best place academically or athletically to raise kids.

Maybe for a couple months but neither of us want to do long distance because, well, long distance is stupid.

You're 34 Rogue. Either move with her to **GASP** Tampa Bay, and do what you went to school for, or continue to be irresponsible, and dick around in Key West.

Or, simply find out if the drive to Publix is more than fifteen minutes from your new crib.

If so, all bets are off.

Bite the bullet- move to Tampa and marry the chick. Have a couple of kids, work in a job you can barely tolerate, watch your sex life go down the tubes, have an affair, watch the kids grow up, and find out in your fifties you no longer have anything in common. In other words, live the American Dream. Oh, and don't forget to dream of Key West along the way

The fact that you have to ask this question speaks volumes.

I'm in the same life. Live in a resort town, live the dream, etc etc.

A few things you need to realize.

1) The relationship will end. Not in a month, maybe not a year, but it'll end. They all do. The only people that remain married are the conservative ones that are miserable. You've lived the high life, the good life, once that happens its tough to change for the "better".

2) You only live once. Stay until you're DEFINITELY ready to move. If you're questioning it, you're not ready. And nothing says you can't go back to the girl 2-3 years down the road. Love is strong. Doesn't take much to strike up old feelings if the break up doesn't have death threats.

3) You're not missing anything with the girl. At our age, love is around every corner. Even when you don't want it, you find it.

The best advice I can give you is act like a man. As a 34 year old educated, professional male, you have to decide what that is and stand by it. No one here is going to know your situation better than you do so quit posturing for the sake of being "cool" and ****/get off the pot. Again, I have no idea what's best for you, but you do. Trust your gut and grow up, dude.

Tough one. I'm at the age where if I'm going to do it right, it's time. She's a great gal, makes me a WAY better person than I was before, has a great family I get along with like their my own, she gets along with my family, etc.

If I was already living in Tampa or wherever it wouldn't even be a question. But damn, this is a nice setup I have down here, probably have a house in the next year or two if I stay. From there who knows

I kind of feel like it's time. I just don't want to look back one day and say, "Damn bud, you effed that one up." which at like 50+ will probably be inevitable ha.

She's 27. She's ready for you to make a decision, whatever that may be.

It seems like a tough decision for you because you're having to be unselfish for the first time (?) in your life. No matter what you decide, you have to decide something . . . for her sake. You can't play around. You have to commit to one lifestyle or the other. You already know this. Good luck.

True^. There's a reason I haven't been married, had kids or even a dog since before I was in college, never wanted to have the responsibility and liked the freedom. It's probably time.

If I was in your situation and I was you, I wouldn't leave.

You'll never be happy living that life or you'd have already done it. Worst scenario is you give up something you enjoy and this woman bounces, you'll never forgive yourself.
