Tough situation for Keenum/Selmon ….

Your football program is a recovering disaster zone with very expensive repairs. And the contractor hired to fix the mess keeps making elementary mistakes and generally 17ing up consistently.

Meanwhile, your neighbor arch rival program is clicking on all cylinders and is in the conversation for the CFP … aGAIN.

woof. Glad I’m not Keenum/Selmon.

Think I’ll concentrate on our mediocre basketball program that has flashes of success (at least before March madness starts), and a baseball program that appears to be poised for marked success.

What sucks is that had we beaten Flarrda and Tejas, we probably would have been guaranteed to offload Selmon to Oklahoma. We win three times.

But we’re Miss Stake, and we lose 3 times.

Honest question for you. And yes I get the football team issues but what’s your issue with Selman. Dude has totally transformed our Athletic department from organization and fundraising from the mess cohen left. And no Selman didn’t hire his “buddy “ in Lebby they barely worked together at OU. So what’s your issue here?

Not true at all. We had talks with reps for several coaches. Most saw this **** storm that was left after the fiasco of Arnette. We are in a much better position than we were then especially with NIL.
ae have to stop thinking we are Poor OL state

Lebby is getting another year but if he doesn't clean up his coaching mistakes next season then Selmon needs to have a serious discussion with the power that Be's about raising the buyout. If Lebby going to pan out it will be next year. I hope Selmon has learn how to hire. He went in for baseball so maybe he go all in for football.

I am not down on Selmon. I do think Lebby was a bad hire. I also think Selmon is not stupid and will learn from mistakes.

I don’t really hate Selmon…..he has done what he was hired to do….raise money and spend money. I just don’t like the plan. So I suppose I’m more mad at Keenum and the old guard who think we need to do what the blue bloods do but at the same time obsess about Ole Miss.

That's an argument to get rid of Lebby if the hiring situation really is much better now than it was 2 years.

Debatable, but that's not the part that sucks about losing all these games.

Besides, the premise was that the team would be 6-2, 2-2 right now.

It’s a lot better. One we have shown committ to the program and facilities with the IPF and Seal renovation. We are in a much better place REV share and NIL. We still need the majority of our fan base to get off there *** and give but still we are light years from where we were two years ago.

What exactly do you want them to do? Raise money and not spend it? Or don’t raise and don’t spend? Odd comment.

I don’t really have any expectations of the basketball team. I’m sure they will be mediocre, like you said. But if the baseball team disappoints, I may have to take time away from Mississippi state sports. Lot of pressure on oak.

Public, strategic plan ie a mission statement for the entire AD as well as each sport. A true thought out plan, not just build bigger bigger bigger like most ‘plans’. And the balls to execute it and make fans believe.

Cohen, but more Benko, are about the only ones I’ve ever seen that got close to this. Byrne didn’t really even do it, he just did the basic low hanging fruit things and knocked a football hire out of the park.

It was time for Cohen to go. I liked him but he did about 50% good 50% bad. He’s a baseball coach. I get it.

I wanted Benko. But hey the baseball stuff worked out so it’s hard to be too unhappy since I have honestly quit caring about football. I don’t think Selmon made that happen but I do give him credit.

I made a conscious decision to permanently recant all criticisms I'd made of Selmon after he hired O'Connor.

But if we finish 0-8 and Selmon can't bring himself to get rid of his friend, I'll have a whole new round of criticisms to get started.

Agree it’s silly to live in hypotheticals, but we’ve had two overtime loses and another when we were within go ahead field goal range with 38 seconds remaining. I HOPE we have a great coach that is just learning how to manage the game (especially clock). But he’d better learn fast or someone else will be driving the 4-wheeler.

I’m sorry but if you look at the press conference Lebby has taken no responsibility for any of that. He dispersed responsibility across the team without ever saying that he personally made mistakes and put his guys into bad situations. He’s saying they have to stay together to avoid finger pointing. He’s the one the finger will be pointed at so yes I’m sure he does want to avoid that. He only talked about execution so he affectively blamed his players. Lebby is a selfish POS.

There is something you never seem to get: there is a reason the blue bloods do what they do, it's why they are blue bloods. Selmon has brought a little bit of that with him. He is trying to instill that mentality and more importantly, that process, here. You better hope he stays a few more years. If he leaves and we hire another John Cohen it would be disastrous.

He’s nearing the end of year 2 & we’ve paid him neatly $8,000,000 so far. How long should we wait for him to learn how to manage a game?

You're supposed to have coaches who tell you what the data says on down and distance, as well as talking about situational awareness in down, distance, and time left on the game clock. Lebby looks like a deer in headlights when it gets down to crunch time. Here clearly needs some guidance from someone in the press box.

Quality Assurance Personnel A should be on the head set "We need to eat some clock here. Don't snap the ball until the play clock is under 5 seconds."

QA Personnel B " We're about 5 yards out of FG range and we're on the left hash. Here's our highest percentage play when we need 5 yards going to the right."

QA Personnel C "If we score a TD to tie it up with less than a minute left, here's the probability we make a 2 pt conversion. "

Lebby shouldn't be navigating any of these things by himself at the end of the 2nd half. He just can't process the moment. There's got to be people assigned to make him aware of what's going on and giving him hard data.

I think we are stuck for another year no matter what. Might as well get over it for now. I hope that Lebby leans from his mistakes and has a very successful program here for a long time, but I’m not holding my breath. First step in fixing a problem is to admit your mistakes and learn from them. That has not happened yet as far as I know.

I was very disappointed after the last two press conferences. He badly needed to give credit to the team for putting us in the position to win, but then personally take the blame for 17ing it up. It’s hard to respect a leader that doesn’t understand this line of thinking.

Also, this week he began talking about “strain.” #NotAFanOfThat

I'm sure Keenum has a serve case of butt chaffing in regards to States current football situation compared to OM football.

However I doubt Selmon loses any sleep over OM. Although he'd never admit it, Selmon mostly likely sees States football plight in the sec as it is. Selmon wants to capitalize on the sports that he can at MSU and salvage or elevate football. If he can keep baseball on track, keep basketball as a tournament program and Even if it's a modest elevation of the football program, he knows other prospective employers will see it all as very impressive results at a under resourced school.
