Government assistance? Lol the dude is right. Pat has thrown 14 picks this year. 9 touchdowns. And only one in the last 7 games. Our quarterbacks are trash and the coaches coaching them are too. No reason for them not to have developed a solid quarterback with guys we have. The QB talent wise is through the roof.
Whatever the game plan was for Missouri should have been the game plan for every game this season. For that matter the 1st half of the USCjr game. Towles was on fire in both of those games. Missouri had a top 15 defense at the time and Towles shredded it. what the hell happened!!
So are the QBs trash, or are the coaches trash for not developing them?
Bottom line: dropped balls by our WR, a very poor OL, and suspect play calling have doomed our QBs all year.
Go look at Maxwell Smith's year at San Diego State this fall. The kid can play. But when he was here everyone yelled for the back-up to play. (Standard protocol here at UK).
Towles should have thrown some balls into the stands, he would have had less sacks and interceptions
Barker probably should have done that yesterday as well. Maybe his completion percentage would have increased when fans in the stands catch the ball.
My question is what do these QBs do on their own? A certain time of year they aren't allowed by NCAA rule to work with coaches so what do they do? Do they study film? Do they throw with their WRs? Do they work in the weight room? They can do any number of things to get better. Do they do it?
TNTUK - in my estimation, you are on point. Let's look at the true root of our QBs and the Football Team in general performances. From a developmental, preparation, planning, and execution perspective; one could successfully win the argument that this coaching staff failed. From a critical thinking, real-time, in game situational awareness and game management perspective; one could successfully win the argument that this coaching staff failed. The Very Bottom Line: the UK Football Coaching Staff is extremely, inexperienced with little or no real experiance for the positions the UK Coaches presently occupy.
Problem is the head coach who dictates the starter can't for the life of him evaluate the talent needed to run the offense at the most important position. Smith would have succeeded in this offense as would Phillips because they are both accurate and make quick decesion. Pat has a great arm but just isn't cut out for this offense. Drew I honestly thought would do a little better, but like Pat this isn't the best offensive scheme for his abilities.
The knock on Phillips from the fans is that he isn't big enough. Well he is a half inch taller than Baker Mayfield. Then it's his arm isn't strong enough. Well compared to Pat it isn't as strong, but neither is Mayfields or Smith and they are both getting it done. Look we run a system offense that needs a QB to put the ball on the money and on time. Like the old UF offense under the Head Ball Coach. How many NFL caliber QB's did his Offense produce?
Stoops hires these coordinators then dictates to them. He needs to let them coach. Neil got so tired of it he took the Troy HC job, yes Troy. Why would any SEC coordinator take the Troy job. Simple to me he was smart and saw that under Stoops he wouldn't be successful running the offense.
Maybe his brother can talk some sense into him this off season. Look where hiring a good OC and letting them run has gotten him this year.
