Pike did a good job adding one high caliber transfer, with the rest of our core players being returnees. I think that’s a pretty good formula for building on a certain cultural foundation for success.
I think that's a key, what kind of culture do you want?
Also I think it's a brilliant way to get shooters. It's tough to bring in a FR and live with his mistakes as a scorer/shooter (unless maybe he's a 5*) and win games, but a Patriot League, Ivy or wherever that kid could be your top guy as a FR/Soph.

I wonder if it will come to P5 schools developing relationships with some smaller schools almost like a minor league. Smaller school gets a kid they might not get with the promise that in 2 years he can transfer to that partner school.

That data isn't surprising. Top 100 transfers are older, bigger, stronger, and proven at the college level. They are also more likely to be brought in to fill a role with an immediate need
Yup - much easier to predict how they'll perform (although what you wrote suggests that too).

Transfers can be much more valuable. We've seen it in lacrosse. These are grown men who, if you get the right ones, are here to win. Recruits care about what he uniforms look like and freshmen are living away from home for the first time in their life.

You know what you have with grad transfers especially. UNC's coach said an interesting thing. He wasn't big in the grad transfer market until he saw our team and other teams at the FF last year. Said they looked like rosters of grown men.

He grabbed a bunch of them after that.

No one cares about lacrosse.

Except the administration. Having some of the greatest success in the department brings privileges.

Lil Guy always so hostile lol.

Nice a basketball thread where the main topic being discussed becomes the UNC lacrosse coach. Just what I was looking for!

Think pike does a decent job balancing but in the last few years I wish he grabbed one more portal guy than he did. If he can sustain the high schools recruiting if the last 9 months than maybe he can stick with with it.

The same logic applies across all sports.

It's not my fault you never were meant to be a varsity athlete.

Excellent points. There are good mid and low major players who can contribute at this level. We got one of the best available.
