People are misguided if they think Trooper and Luper, or Chizik, are out paying players. No freaking coach does that, not even Mirando. They may know about it, they may not. Trooper and Luper probably do know about Auburn's schemers, headed up by Tim Jackson, but I'm thoroughly convinced Chizik was not. I think Chizik was hired STRICTLY to be the moral guy on the pedestal who wouldn't ask questions while Jackson and Dye did their thing behind the scenes. Auburn thinks they know their path to success....and that is to run an NFL-esque program where the elite players are given 'motivation'. They are the modern day SMU.

Trooper and Luper and slick talkers, who identify with the players they recruit. Add the incentives received on the visits and other stuff, and you've got a machine at work. Unfortunately, in college, the head guy must actually be respected. Chizik was not. Dye was the perfect figure head for the Auburn Slime Machine.

Terry Bowden almost blew it up. And they tried the 'right' way with Tuberville, but they found out the hard way that the only way to be successful like that was to have some good luck ie Alabama on probation.

MSU is similar....but instead of blatant cheating I wish we'd just go after JUCOs, transfers and Hargrave types to neutralize talent.

I love the homerish take. "Obviously we haven't done anything major wrong, we're keeping the coaches who supposedly cheated!" Pretty obvious that Auburn is still "all in", but the objective take says what else were they going to do? Head home and hope the NCAA investigation doesn't invalidate their severance? No, if they want any chance of staying on with the next staff, they have to hang around.
Meanwhile, what kind of secondary violation brings in two coaches off the road and keeps them on campus for two months (read that as a ban on off-campus recruiting for both)? Secondary violations usually result in a reduction in visits, limits on calls, writing your sin a hundred times on the blackboard, etc.
The other news from Forde & company was that things aren't just limited to Robinson. There are supposed to be other recruits, and obviously at least one current player. The best thing that could happen for the rest of SEC schools would be for this to grow more legs and drag out through February. It'll hurt both their coaching prospects and signing class.

I think the best thing Auburn can do is hire a coach on a one year contract with no intentions of resigning. A Tim Brewster/John L. Smith guy. No one is going to want to come to Auburn...

I don't think USA's coach would go to Auburn, and he was a high school coach in Alabama 5 years ago.

Most likely he has the goods on the Auburn Football program and its past recruiting indiscretions. He probably has let them know that if he is canned, all this will come to light. I think he has a pretty good insurance policy no matter who the new coach is.

Highly doubt this. An assistant coach with muscle on his future boss' boss is not a good thing in any shape, form or fashion. Like I said, I highly doubt Trooper has any proof of wrong-doing. These guys are pros.

Why would they talk? Situations like that don't come out well for anyone. Why would a coach (who ever wants to work again) want to be associated with a scandal? Only way for stuff like this to come forward is for writers to come out with it.

Even if there was a "gag order", he could hurt them a lot worse than they could hurt him.
